I'll do any wiring except for remote starters, however the last few cars I've used the Astrostart.  It has 1500' + range, 2 way, low voltage and temperature capibility, in addition to that I can also keep it running and remove the keys from the ignition.

DEI. Python 871XP. Its the only remote start/keyless/alarm/window module, etc. I will use. I've had one on 3 cars now and soon to have one on the AV. I love them.

Are they hard to wire up? Sucks that they didn't offer this on the 06 Av.

Does this system's Fob work the doors as well or will I need to use 2 fobs?

isn't there a GM retro fit for the 06's?

Some are pre-wired some are not. The ones that are not...its easier to buy an aftermarket. Most GM alarms/remote starts are made by DEI anyway.

I talked to the parts dept and they said the 06 Av's did not come wired for it and that you had to go aftermarket.

Yeah, generally thats correct. I've seen a couple Escalades and Tahoes that have been prewired from the factory. Not many, but there are a few that got new wiring. I'm sure it doesn't happen that often.

Now my next fear will be the factory warrenty, will it void it for putting in an aftermarket system?

If the vehicle is not offered with a remote start as an option, and it is installed by a licensed professional (anyone but "Backyard Bob"), then no, they cannot void your warranty.

Wonder why the 05 had it then it got removed in 06

Probably the same reason they removed the Fob option as well. I guess on prior models and the Escalades, the vehicle adjusts to the settings of the fob that is used to unlock the doors. The 06' don't do that either. It's all a money thing.

fyi... if you add an aftermarket remote start and your Av goes in for any type of diagnostic, the first thing they're going to want to do is remove it.  The ones around here won't reconnect it either.

I'm seriously thinking about having them install switches on any wire that ties into the computer when I get it reconnected next week.

I had them replace my ignition a couple of times and they had no problem with going around the harness.  The first time they wanted to charge $50 and I made a small fit and had no problems since then.

Most GM alarms/remote starts are made by DEI anyway.

As far as I know, all of the GM remote starts are made by Lear Corporation - I work for them. I don't know about the alarms. We also make a lot of the remote key fobs.

I checked on a remote start today at Creative Car Audio. It is an Autostart brand with a 2000 ft radious. The fob allows you to lock/unlock the doors, start the vehicle, it also has an option button to turn on the heated seats. Installed for $316 with 10% military discount. You can also still use the original fobs to lock/unlock.

Has anyone ever heard of the Autostart brand?

Here's the link to the exact unit:

I went to a local shop right after I bought my AV to have a remote start put in and they told me that they won't install them because the aftermarket remote starts had a history of causing fires....needless to say I didn't put one in.  Anybody else hear of this?  Or were they blowing smoke because they (the shop) had problems...?

I've never heard of them but then that doesn't mean much.   I have heard lots of good things about products from DEI, which I think stands for Directed Electronics.  I have a Python remote starter/alarm from DEI.

My friend  had an aftermarket remote start installed on a caprice and when  other wiring messed up . GM wouldn't fix it. blamed it on the remote start. He traded it in on a Toyota.
