Topic: Torsion Key - Leveling Kit Installation

I need to know how to, and what tools, etc will be needed to install this "Daystar" 2" leveling kit.  I know I will have to have an alignment done after installation, but not much else.  Has anyone experienced this?

the lift is very simple you will need a jack, jackstands, basic metric wrenches, socket set and torsion key tool readylift.com has them for $99.00. unless you have someone you can barrow from. I did mine with a bottle jack and wooden 4X4s on a gravel drive way I don't recomend doin that. I was scared to death the whole time. I live in columbia SC if you are close enough I would be glad to help. good luck

Most people do the keys with a gear puller.  AutoZone has a tool loaner program.  It cost me nothing.  Pic below.

I never thought of using a gear puller but I did try a large base C clamp and broke it in half.

I have heard some war stories about trying a C clamp.  The gear puller is by far the easiest and not to mention the SAFEST option to swap your keys.

appreciate the offer to help.  I live in La porte, Tx. (near Houston, Tx.)  and also thanks for the reply.  i do have a concrete driveway, so i should be pretty safe.  Floor jack, jack stands and metric wrenches, I think i even have a gear puller, IF not I do have the local Auto Zone to borrow from.  THANKS again.

I had the c-clamp go flying across the garage. After that it makes you pretty nervous but you just have to cowboy up and git-r-dun!

damn, ski...you got tore up.  scares me to think that this could be the price i pay to lift up the front of my truck.  id rather have the new keys than crank the stock ones, and my truck has yet to draw blood from me (especially since the trucks nickname is the bloodhound, :P)

btw is the gear puller tool available to rent from autozone?  i also have a friend who works in a garage, he may have access to one.  thank you!

Don't let my war wounds scare you from doing this mod.  I was ill equipped in the tool department to make the job easy.  I just had a short handle socket set and made the job harder than it should have been.  Have done this a couple more times with the proper tools and accomplished in a fraction of the time.  Just make sure that you jack up the front end, put it on stands and you should be all set.  I did do the free loaner from AZ on the gear puller. Good luck and make sure to get an alignment when done.

It really sounds like I have nothing to worry about then, especially if Im going to douse each stock key with pb blaster every day for a week until i do the job, AND get the gear puller from autozone.  my g/f's brother(s) should have any other necessary tools.  Im soo excited!

You'll be fine!!!  My keys were rusted, but no PB and they came right out.  Good luck!!
