Saddlebag Mods...
« on: February 27, 2007, 07:43:15 PM »
Does anyone have a write up or a few pics of the flashlight and fire extinguisher installed in the lid of the saddlebags?

I think thats a great mod that doesn't take up a lot of space.

Any other free mods would be good info too.  :thumb:

Home Depot have the "MagLite" for under $20 and you'll need the clips also for under i think $5

Easy install and wont take no more than 1/2 hr to complte.

Another free mod: Your DRL's (driving running lights) you can replace the white ones for amber color. Most, if not all club members done this. They see each other on the road and notice the ambers, you know they belong to whatever AV club. Is more like a club I.D.  :thumb:

I have a DRL that is out anyway. I may do that. As far as the "clips", are they just the type you can buy to hang a broom or something in the closet? How did you mount them? Screws?

The clips Blue is referring to are the ones specifically for Mag lights. I got mine at Ace Hardware for $6. You'll also want to get the screw anchors from Autozone or any other automotive parts store, I think wal Mart even carries them. then drill a hole in the lid, not deep though just enough to break the surface then pop in the anchors and attach the clips. The anchors are exactly like the ones that are in the front bumper for the license plate.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide

DRL's $5 at the gas station.

The clips are held by 1/4" screws. You'll need to drive 'em with a cordless. Everything you need is included in the package for MagLite clips.

Im not sure if a shower hanger clips will work.

2002's don't need to do any drilling, we have the screws already there, just take them out put the clip there and put screw back.  :thumb:

Ok, I got my Maglite and clips for Christmas. ( the wifey even modded the light with and LED upgrade, yeah she's hooked) I'm looking at the screws that came with it and they look a little long. I don't want to go drilling through the lid of my saddlebag. Anyone know what length screw they used?

I got it. the 1/4"screws that came with it Looked a little to long, I bought some 3/4" LONG at the hardware store.  here's the pix. the one with the light is trying to show the led brightness. My wife modded the mod with a led bulb.

That looks great!  The LED bulbs truly that much brighter?  You inspired me - couldn't find the mag-lite brackets anywhere, so finally went to the local hardware store, they found them online (they are an ACE store) and ordered both the brackets and a RED metallic Mag-lite to go with it   Supposed to be here next thursday....

Brighter vs. Whiter.....I think I've got LED on the brain since the LOF install...lol, I use a LED headlamp at work at times and it just seems to be less eye strain than the standard bulb. The Wife said the upgrade bulb was about $10.

Nope.  Theyre all the same for all years.   Make sure you use black self tappin' screws.

Make sure you use small screws.  You dont want to screw them in all the way thru to show the tip on the top side :tickedoff:

Being the practical person that I am, I'm kind of wondering how that setup would stand up in the rain.  Say you don't have a garage or overhang to shield the AV, but you've got electronic equipment in the saddlebag.  Interesting indeed....

Obviously the AV is for show and i guarantee that its always garaged.

....but for us daily drivers,i dont think is a good idea.   Definetly,it will get wet.
