Just scored 200 Square feet of 3M's Matte Black CV3 vinyl from ebay in a 480 inch rool by 60 inches tall... When it gets here I'll fly it with me back to Egypt. I'm pretty sure I'll be around 80 square feet short though. So, I wanted to get all of your opinions on the following,

How many square feet do you think it'll take to cover a older body style "Cladded" Avy?

For those of you who have experience in the matter,
Is an overlaminate on the matte vinyl neccessary?

also got me some jet black Alcantara for the door panels

I don't have experience on this but sound like one helluva job. I'm assuming this is like tint film?

I promise! This will be my first ever official online documentation of a project pertaining to the Avalanche.

I've attached some pictures below of the application process and the Matte Black film itself on other veichles. After a lot of forum reading and much searching I have decided to go with 3M because I believe they make the most innovative/quality vinyl. Their "ControlTac vinyl supposedly makes application of the vinyl much easier by allowing the repositioning of the vinyl then when satisfied apply pressure to "Seal the Deal". Also, this film supposedly breathes, so you should'nt find yourself chasing little stupid air bubbles from the center of your hood to the edges.. haha.

I personally have only seen the film on a Beamer once in Egypt. Loved the way it looked. I am a bit worried about the ease in which it may be "knicked or scratched" which is why I'm thinking about investing in an over laminate. Not to sure yet.

I saw pics of black BMW that had a white wrap. The fella said he was planing to change colors every year. I do like the idea but my AV has too many contours in the hood and ground effects.

Watch out for fowlhunter, I think he once inquired about wrapping his with camo pattern.

I'd like to tackle it myself though I am worried about how difficult it would be. Especially considering the fact that I am in an apartment for the moment

The vinyl wrap service here also does it's work "Outdoors"

they have experienced staff - thats about the only plus side. I'm fairly confident I can do it myself with the help of possibly one other person, in order to stretch such a large peice across parts like the hood... I dunno yet. I'm going to have to check out this stuff when it gets here on the 7th. Work will not begin until late August possibly early September. Weather should be good then. I'm thinking I might make my way down over to one of the local garage/ wash shops and offer them money for a spot to apply the stuff and for a "helping hand" - not to sure about this idea yet. Anyway to make things more difficult the Avy is a daily driver.

BD - hahaha, I would'nt even have a thought in the direction of wrapping that kisk

paint job!!!! If my avalanche didnt have this beat up paint job I probably be more focused on lifting it or on the interior. Though from what I've read/seen/heard this stuff can wrap around and stretch to cover virtually any contour or shape. I'm going to test that. I plan to have every inch of this veichle vovered except for the lights, windows, grille and anything else Im forgetting... haha

LOL.......Congrats on your first Stickied Post!! I just HAD to sticky it to keep it on top. Lots of us here are very interested in watching this project progress. I actually saw an EXT in flat black and it was sexy as hell. Look forward to seeing yours done.

Batman used to have a wrap on his but that pix is long gone. It got lost in the server move a while back. He doesn't log on much anymore. Last I saw him was at Dreamcruise last year.

THE Vinyl CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY !!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!

I'll snap some pictures of the stuff, turns out the seller threw in a free 10'x 18" extra piece too!!! What a sweet guy!!!!!!

So that brings up my ability to cover some 215 square feet of Avalanche!!!! YIpeee!!!!

I'll grab some snap shots of the roll and so forth as soon as I can. I travel back to Egypt on the 20th and will probably begin wrapping sometime near the beginning of September. But so far I'll tell you this... It's a lot different looking in person. It's kind of soft, I'm worried about the ease at which it can be harmed/scratched. Its VERY stretchable. THe adhesive side has these "Channels" that make it so you CAN NOT have any trapped bubbles!!!

Wow..I'm sorry for coming into this thread so late. Having had my AV wrapped three different times I may have been able to help a little.
When my truck was wrapped this last time it had a nice matte black look to it while it was curing. I like it alot.

I have mixed feelings on the top coat. It's good in that it allows you to wash, wax, strip, buff etc but it's bad in that if you don't put the two layers on exactly the same way there is a chance that can move in different directions as it cures and it will develop folds. This happened the second time I had mine done.

I can't wait to get home and take a look at the video. Great job! People still can't tell mine is wrapped!
