H.I.D help for an 2007
« on: July 27, 2010, 02:55:41 PM »
Okay here's the deal guys, I'm a newbie to all of this but reading all these posts has put a ton of questions in my head about H.I.D's.  I really wasnt liking the mod at first but seeing in pics and before I left for my deployment has got me wanting them.  So here's my questions.

1.  In a 2007 model i've seen some posts about the different wattages.  Some people insist the 55w and 35w is way too high for the lenses and they will melt under the heat.  I've seen people say 25w is the way to go.  Is this all true???

2.  How does H.I.D's affect on the lights coming on automatically at night??  Will this factory option still work correctly or do you just have to do it the old fashion way and turn the switch "on" everytime?

I know that some of these maybe basic answers but please be nice. Thanks for yalls help!

I believe the 25watt is the overall choice.   A harness in needed so they dont flicker at startup.

Theres a thread but i cannot spot it.   Im still looking....

trAV has the 35 watt bulbs in his Low/high beams and 25 watt in his fogs. Enkei used the 35 watt in both places. I'm sure they're chime in today.

35 watt HID for the headlights is fine and won't cause any issues.  I recommend the 25 watt ballasts for the fogs if your not a Z71.  Enkie is running 35 watt fogs without any issues, but his is a Z71 with the larger fogs.  There have been alot of reports with fog lenses and housings melting on the '07 up.  I HIGHLY recommend the HID's.  Once you go HID you won't go back to halogen.

I've heard rumors of the round fog lenses on non-Z71 avys having melting issues with 35w ballasts but never saw an actual post from someone who had a bad experience so I figured I'd give it a try and tell about it.

I recently made my order with DDM. I installed 35w 6000k in my low beams and 35w 5000k in my fogs. I do own an 07 LTZ and the fog wattage is too high. The reflective material just above the HID bulbs are starting to blister.

DDM does not sell 25w ballasts so I am ordering a pair from hidgeeks.com They are only $16. I will let you guys know how it goes.

55w is pointless unless you already have 55w halogens in there BUT because HIDs burn hotter 55w is useless because the hotter the wattage the more color drain your gunna have. 55w 8000k is equivalent to my 35w 6000k

35w is the safest you can go without having to worry about any housing damage due to over-heating. ive been running my 03 for a year now..no damage.

as far as the fog light goes...if its non-cladded DO NOT go more then 35w because GM had many problems from 02-06 with housing issues with halogen bulbs that ran hotter then 35w.

you having an 07 dont have th problem with the fog lights...but still to play the safe side 35w is the best way to go.

the picture attached is my truck the phone gives my lights no justice but the distance is a good 30-40yards of sight maybe more but u will never use High Beams again..trust me on that

Hey B,  He's saying that his '07 non Z71 with the smaller fogs than our cladded avy's is having a problem blistering the relfector. Our fog lights are much bigger than his.

after re-reading i realized that  banghead1  but i know i have too heard some 07 models had the same problem....i know for a fact its not covered under warranty but people have bought the after market halo projectors for the fog lights which arent too much surprisingly....or you can drill holes in the housing but i dont really like that idea but people have done it

I ended up doing the 25w ballests in the fogs and got blistered/burnt lens on both.  Looking now to replace them and take the HID's off the Fogs all together.

I have 55w, 5000k low and highs with no problems.  Most of what I have read and heard is even 35w for the Fogs is too much.
2009 Black LT 4x4 no markings.
Amber's
Tail light bar
5000k, 55w HID low's and high's

Summer project list - Volant CAI, bed rollout, powder coat calipers.
