Fender cladding
« on: July 01, 2010, 08:23:22 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm brand new to the forum and apologize in advance if this has been disscussed or beaten into the ground. I'm interested in any info or pics someone might have of painting or buying cladding for my 02 cladded Av over the wheels. I don't mean the little pieces that came on the 2500's, I mean the whole "bumped out" (for lack of a better description) fender. I've seen pics of different Avs that they have done this. My problem is paint chipping and blistering. I want to hide it. Thanks in advance for any info.

Are you talking about the cladding in general is chipping and blistering or a specific piece? If it's having issues like that, it sounds like a previous owner did something to it. Maybe Gatorback that wasn't properly prepped or even used Krylon Fusion paint on it.

No, my cladding's not chipping my paint is right above the wheels where there is no cladding. I wish I could think of a better way to describe the location. Here goes, the bumped out half moon part. Does that help?

Okay, gotcha. It's the metal fender itself. On the '02s this is starting to be pretty much a given. GM in all their infinite wisdom injected some kind of sealant between the panels and it traps moisture. There's a guy locally that keeps his '02 immaculate (I'm talking scrubbing the frame and the inside of the tires plus keeps it in the garage for nothing other than GTG's and it's rusting in the same spot.

Yep. That's the spot. It's very frustrating and I know I've seen where people have painted or bought cladding panels.

Well we're on the right track. Not mine really either, but they look a darn sight better than chipped paint.

I'd say they are for the Nekkid Avs and have just been "made" to fit the cladded.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide
