ISimple/Apple ISGM74 on 05 w/in dash 6disc changer?
« on: June 11, 2010, 09:08:22 AM »
I purchased an Ipod Nano for my girlfriend on her birthday, now she wants to be able to listen to it through her stereo.  She also received an FM wireless modulator which connects to the cigarette lighter, the sound quality sucks so I'm looking for something that will connect directly to her factory stereo.  I've been to Crutchfields website and found two options (Peripheral #541ISGM73 & USA Spec #581PA15GM) but after talking with a tech (Buck) I found they will not work with her factory 6-disc in dash CD changer.  The tech at Crutchfield (Buck) recommended the Scosche #142IPFMRDS which also charges the Ipod, all functions are controlled through the Ipod.  See below for the link to the Scosche #142IPFMRDS wired FM modulator from Crutchfield.
OK, now to my original question.  I also found the ISimple/Apple (ISGM74) direct connect kit for select GM vehicles but I'm not sure this will work with her 6-disc in dash CD changer?  Is anyone with a 6-disc in dash CD changer using this?  I'll also attach the Best Buy link for this.
Thanks for the help!

Yes ours is the 6 disk changer. With the ISimple you can also use the steering wheel buttons to control the IPOD and it also charges the IPOD. I ran the harness through the console so that the IPOD is in the console when in use so that it is out of sight along with the wiring. You do have to remove the stereo to install the ISimple one. It is also easier to remove the heater controls. No need to disconnect the heater controls, just loosen it and let it lay out of the hole. I dropped the glove box to mount the ISimple box behind it as there is no room behind the radio to mount it.

I think this kit also allows for future expanability of HD? You would have to purchase the unit but I think it connects to this.

I went back and looked and the ISGM74 is the same one I bought. Did you get it new or used?

Good deal!  No not yet, still researching it.  So with this kit connected are you still able to play CD'S?  Seems to be the biggest problem.  I don't want to install any kit and loose the option of playing CD's.

Yes. It basically just plugs into the existing wires in the back that goes to the XM module. All functions of the radio are still useable and with this adapter, you use the steering wheel controls to run the IPOD and can see the IPOD function on the radio face. It also charges the IPOD

That's a great question but I don't have an answer, you may want to do a little more research to see if this is compatable with the GM nav system.
