Avalanche 2500 Bumper
« on: May 18, 2010, 08:23:07 AM »
Avalanche 2500 Bumper

I built this bumper for the 2002 3/4 ton Avalanche I used to own.The main body is a 1/4" wall steel tube.  There are two clevis mounts for towing and extraction that are solid steel and tied directly to the truck frame.  The design retains the side steps and incorporates a receiver hitch.  It is painted to match the early grey body cladding with a textured surface to match.  This is a heavy bumper and will be expensive to ship. pm for pictures

That's a helluva fab job on that bumper! Looks great  I'm wondering if it will also fit the 1500. I don't know if there were any differences in the rear bumper between the 2 models.

Very nice.

And I am not sure if the rear has any difference, I know the front does.  But it could only be for mounting points.

Thanks.  The frame width for the 2500 was about 42".  You can measure your 1500 frame to see if it's the same.

I really like the work you did on that bumper. I'm also in need of a new bumper cover (due to a run-in with a deer in fall 2008) but I'd rather have your bumper if it will fit my 1500. I'll try to get around to crawling under the truck and looking at the mounts to see if I think it might fit. Can you give a little more info on the hitch? Is it attached to the bumper or does it still use the factory hitch? I happen to know someone local with a 2500 so I think the best bet would be to drive over to his house and do a direct comparison of rear bumper to rear bumper. That will probably have to wait until this weekend.

We have a new Texas member here that I believe works in a service department at a Chevy dealer and also another new member that works at a dealer here in the Midwest. I wonder if either of these two guys can look up the part numbers for both the 1500 and 2500 rear bumbers to see if they are different. I just checked my sources and it doesn't give part numbers.

I'll try to attach an additional photo that shows the hitch from the rear.  The hitch tube is welded to a solid 1/2" plate and gussetted to the rear.  I should point out that the bumper is not brand new as in the photos.  There is a bit of surface rust around the openings for the trailer wiring plug and spare tire winch access.  The rest is glossy and nice.  You will have to use the license plate lights from your original bumper as well as the trailer wiring and spare tire access opening.

I believe the rear bumpers for the 1500 and 2500 from 02 to 06 are the same when I get home I`ll look up in my parts books.
