Topic: Under Hood Foam Material

Hey everybody,

I'm planing on removing the fadded foam mat thats pinned to the underside of the stock hood.  Does anyone know the real reason these are installed by the factory other than possible noise reduction?  Is it there to help smoother a possible fire?   

Do the aftermarket hoods come with the material pinned to the underside of the hood like the stock hood?

The guy who painted my aftermarket hood told me he could put that material from my stock hood on my aftermarket hood, but it would pretty much defeat the purpose of the hood's vents on the back in the cowl area from cooling down the engine compartment, and recommended that I not reinstall it.  I haven't had one on the truck for years now, and don't miss it, although it does somewhat clean up the look of the bottom of the hood.

M1, have you had any paint issues on the ram air hood? I thought maybe that was also a heat insulator to protect the paint.

It's pretty much there for a sound deadener. OBB - think about how many vehicles you've seen that don't have an insulator pad - and none of them have peeling paint issues.

Yes, but due to rock chips!

lol...... well i have one, but is in the shed with the factory hood. Probably eaten by mice.
