How to build a Mid deck/Back seat dog bed.....
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:12:03 PM »
Well many of you have seen them and asked???  How do you build that thing?   Well it is easy and can be done in about 2 hours and with under $75.00 worth of stuff...

What you will need...  Plywood About 1/2-3/4 Any kind about a 5x4 foot piece should do. A 5x4 piece of Cardboard, A good marker and scissors, A piece of indoor/outdoor carpert. (I used a road/play set from Home depot for $19.00) Some good rug adhesive and a jig saw..

Start by putting the rear seats down all the way, Trace the cardboard around the whole area. Be sure to make the notches around the midgate and the bottom of the seats. After you trace it Cut it out with eather a pair of Scissors or a Razor blade. (Be careful)  Place the cutout on top of the wood then trace that on to the wood. Be sure to leave room around the edges for the carpert.

After this is all done you might want to sand down the edges all around for a smooth feel and no roughness..  Get your carpert and lay it down on a clean floor then take the wood and place it on top of it. Be sure to center it well. Then cut out the carpet around the wood leaving about 4-7 in's of extra carpet around the edge of the wood.  When it's all cut out make some cuts about 3-5 in's in by all the turns and corners.   Pick up the wood off of the carpet and spray the carpet adhesive lightly on both the carpet and wood, let dry for about 10 mins..

After that lay the wood back on to the carpet and start pulling the cut piece's up over the back of the wood.. (Note you might want to spray more glue on this area and let dry for a few mins till tacky..  You should be done now.. Some people will cut it in 1/2 and put a hinge on to make it easy to take in and out of the truck..

I hope this helps...
