Mothers Day weekend GTG!
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:03:47 PM »
My family and I are going camping Mothers Day weekend at Lincoln State Park in Southern Indiana and would love to have you join us.  It's a DNR property so you can reserve your spot online. We will be at campsite 51, and a friend of mine has 49 right next to us.  If anyone is interested in joining us come on over!  Even if you just want to stop in for a few hours...we plan on relaxing and celebrating our moms.   :coolsmiley:  Oh, my camp spot is near a playground if you have little ones.

If you are interested in joining us, visit this link thingy and make reservations for Lincoln State Park...we are at the Electrical Campground.  Or, you can camp in another spot and join us for relaxing fun by the fire!

Here is a link for more information on Lincoln state park: Lincoln State Park

Here is a link to the campground map: Lake Lincoln Campground Electric

There are primitive sites available as well.  Overall site map: Lincoln State Park

As I drove through there the other day I noticed all kinds of activities available.  Boat rental if you want to go fishing, paddle boats, a couple of playgrounds, a 'beach' that doesn't open until Memorial day  banghead1 .  Also, just a few miles down the road is the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.  We could take a tour over there with our AV's on Saturday if we're so inclined...otherwise we can just hang out and mod!

And - if you are so inclined, just a few miles down the road is Holiday World and Splashin' Safari amusement park.  Unfortunately the water park doesn't open until the following weekend, but the rides will all be open. They've got some great roller coasters - but none of them are considered 'thrill coasters' as they are all wooden coasters, no loops, corckscrews, etc.  It's a great park, free Pepsi products all day, and great shows, games, etc.  It's been rated a No. 1 family fun park a number of times.  It's an option for anyone wanting to bring their kids along!

Staying Overnight:

CntrySngr72 + Staci + Mom + Nephew (Site 51 Friday-Sunday)
Friend + 3 (my friend, her husband and their two kids - not AV owners :( ) (Site 49 Friday-Sunday)
Didit & Lu (Site 48 Friday-Sunday)
Ski Edition & Family (Site 47 Thursday-Sunday)
Butch & Jomama (BLUE HERON FAMILY CABIN #4 Friday -Sunday)
ajebner +2 (Site 50 Thursday-Saturday)
AvBrat + Daughter
Survivorof99

She's ok with the tent - it's the mothers day weekend I think.  I think she wants to be home so that her children can lavish her with love and affection (I think she's a little bit delusional) but I know she will also want to go to church.  She hasn't missed a Sunday in about 5 years, whether we've been on vacation, or even when she was released from the hospital after having had surgery 2 days earlier at noon one Sunday.  If we don't pack up until mid-morning, and don't get home until noonish, she'll want to find a church with evening services and she won't have the mothers day experience she wants.

Totally understandable.  Staci and I are similar...we won't miss a mass.  We'll either get up early and go to one in Santa Clause, or we'll go to the teen service that they have on the 2nd Sunday of every month. As for the Mom's day stuff...can't blame her there either! Mine will be with me, so I plan on spoiling her!

Want to try to plan a group meal for possibly Saturday afternoon/evening?  Just a suggestion.  My wife likes to make a Shrimp Low Country Boil when we go camping.  (Shrimp, Sausage, Corn on the cob, potatoes, etc)  Just an idea.  Talk amongst yourselves............ :cheesy1:

Okay, so do we want to 'pot luck' it?  Everyone bring a dish to pass, and your own meats?  Or, I could possibly get burgers and dogs with the buns, everyone else make something to go with it?

I do like the sound of the Low Country Boil though! MMmmmmm!!

Only a few more days!!  Can't wait!!

Don't bring firewood...they are really cracking down on bringing in wood to the state parks...some kind of bug infestation concern.

Bundles are $4.50 at the store there...store is open until 9:00 on Friday...

See you Friday!!!!!

It's that ash borer bug. That law is  all over the place right now. Ever see the purple triangle looking things hanging from trees along the highway? That's how they're tracking the infestation.

Minor One and I are still looking to visit on Saturday, and would love to participate in a pitch-in dinner or lunch.  Is that still in the works, and if so, about what time.  (I wouldn't want to miss all of the good eats!)  Also, what is needed that we could bring?

18x10 Forged Weld Wheels, BFG g-Force KDWs, JBA shorties, custom catback with FM70, Crane plug wires, Trailblazer Torque Converter, bigger cam, efans, HP Tuners custom tune, WAAG stuff, mildly boosted with Vortech Supercharger.......

Uhm...well, Jennifer is leaving at 2:00 local time, that's 3:00, but Staci (my girlfriend) has to work until about noon local time...so lunch is probably going to be difficult to accomplish.  Actually, I was leaning towards a 5:00 CDT dinner time, if that works for you Main?

As for who has what:

Country Boil - Ski
Burgers, Dogs - Me
Mac salad - mom
desserts - Staci, Sarah
Also will have chips and other snack items...

We're also bringing Margarita's!

5 o'clock central, 6 eastern, works for us I believe.  Will check with the Mrs. about what she'd like to add that will compliment your list.  Maybe pasta salad or something like that.

See you tomorrow!  Hopefully it won't be too chilly.  We're I guess about an hour and a half north, but the high up here tomorrow is only supposed to be 58.

Sorry I didn't take any pictures to post - I'm sure others will be posting after getting home.  I didn't camp - got home last night a little after 11.  I'm guessing most are on their way home now.

Thanks to all who share the good food!  Ate like a King!  Thanks to CntrySngr72 for starting all of this!  And to Didit - Minor One says thanks for the Mothers Day gift!

It was a great time, I thought.  Not back BADfor my second GTG planning...however, I owe Didit for the suggestions to the museum and the Candy Castle...which had the BEST Frozen Hot Chocolate (and only one) I've ever had.   Course, my scale this morning said "one at a time please"...so yeah...too much food.

Ski, that is SUCH a bummer!  You have me worried hauling my camper now!  :dunno:

Steven, I don't think you need to worry too much.  It wasn't a result of pulling the camper as much as it was a faulty install of the body lift.  banghead1 banghead1  Reminder to self: Leave it alone!!!  Here's a few pics.

What happened, what was the cause of the break down?

After doing more research on the PA body lift, this turned out to be a common problem with their lift.  Once the spacers are inserted, the tranny cooler lines are raised up into the lower pully.  After about 250+ miles, the pulley wore a hole in the line and the rest in history.  Think I realized the damage before I ran her dry and it became mechanical.  Still waiting on the dealer to call me.  When I get her back, I'll do a little write up with pics to save people the same hassles I've gone through.

You guys didn't intrude!  My family was really happy you were there...sorry if THEY intruded on you!!

We have no plans for Memorial at this point...I know that is graduation weekend here, but there aren't any immediate family members graduating, so I can send cards!

If Didit doesn't want to trek that far again, we could look at 'Land between the Lakes'...or something like that.  I'd really like to check out Mammoth Caves sometime.

At least George didn't wake me up at 0545 looking for coffee!!      Too funny!!!

HUSH, lmbo,   was kinda funny but no problem, hehe

Number One, Louisville is not to far, we've been to the NEW St Park right there outside of Louisville on the Indiana side of the river, Charlestown St Park, pretty decent at that time, it opened three years ago if I remember right, we were there the first year, I'm sure they've made a lot of improvements since then, its on the old Jefferson Proving Grounds property.

Number Two, if you dont have reservations for Memorial Day weekend by now, forget it, you'll camp in the driveway.  Unless you find a private campground that did not open till mid April, we scrounged and scrounged looking for something half of the grandkids would enjoy and ended up at a place called Camp Modoc near Richmond, In. So thats where were going that weekend, as a matter of fact were off all that week, wooohooo

Number Three, TRUST me you dont want to ROUGH it in an aluminum box for the weekend in the summer time, it surely will be the most miserable time you will ever have!

Louisville any weekend would be good, lol, its only an hour and a half drive from here, lol well give or take a few

Yea, me too!  Update:  Chevy dealer got the new lines on and fluid in and recommend replacing the tranny.  4 Wheel Parts is taking me up there tomorrow and they are going to get my trailer and we're going to take it to a transmission shop for 2nd opinion.  $360 for lines, fluid and labor.  Estimate on whole deal is $3200+.

Forgot that Mrs Ski was going to El Paso that weekend for our niece's baptism, so probably just take the girls camping somewhere around here locally.

Ski - sorry to hear about your breakdown, but glad someone else is going to cover the repairs.

We might be up for camping.  Mothers Day weekend was bad for us as Minor One wanted it to be a special day for our expecting daughter.

18x10 Forged Weld Wheels, BFG g-Force KDWs, JBA shorties, custom catback with FM70, Crane plug wires, Trailblazer Torque Converter, bigger cam, efans, HP Tuners custom tune, WAAG stuff, mildly boosted with Vortech Supercharger.......

They fixed the lines and we're going through the "2nd opinion" song and dance within the next couple of days.  We'll see what they step up to the plate and take care of.

Any favorite camping spots up your way?  We might be able to get a few folks together.

At this point I'm not sure we could get reservations anywhere, but I'd be up for it...

BTW Didit, there is another campground close to Mammoth (not actually in the park) that has full hook-ups.

Replacing the tranny, Ouch!!!  I sure hope they (4 Wheel Parts) step up to the plate to make everything right.  Keep us posted brother.  Also glad to hear about the bedslide!!!!!

Me and you both, north of the border they're about $800 cdn.  banghead1  Steel Slide sells them for $580 US with carpet and shipping to a US address. The dollar is pretty good right now so I'm seriously considering it.

Just got back from 4 Wheel Parts Tranny guy and they are going to rebuild mine.  Guarantee it to be stronger than stock and on their nickel.  3 year warranty.  Quoted the 4 Wheel Parts Mgr. $2750 for the job.  Goes in Monday.

Have it sent to my house and I'll deliver it in August when you come through this way.

WHERE IT REALLY IS ABOUT THE FRIENDS AND AVY'S, AND NOT THE ALMIGHTY ADVERTISING DOLLAR!
