02 Power Steering Pump Replacement?
« on: March 30, 2010, 02:56:00 PM »
The original power steering pump on my 02 is leaking and rather than pull it off and repair it I'm thinking I'll just replace it, less down time is good for me.  Has anyone replaced the pump on an 02, if so was it a difficult procedure and do you need to bleed the new pump?

Thanks!

How bad is it leaking? I had a leaky pump on our 92 Grand Caravan, drained the fluid, added Lucas stop leak and it never leaked again. It might be worth a shot and will at least buy you a little time.

Not real bad but the anal guy I am I can't let it go.   banghead1
If I replace it does the new pump need to be primed or bled?

Just fill it up, start the truck, and crank it lock to lock for a while. Check the level, top it off, and repeat the lock to lock. You're done.

and to add to that. put some cardboard under the tires or you'll have ugly black marks on your drive.

OK, I thought I read somewhere that the new pump needed to be bled?

That's what cranking it lock to lock is doing - bleeding all of the trapped air out of the system.
