Sport Wing
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:11:04 PM »
Have to do some work on my broken grill and need to get it painted, so I keep thinking about my Sport Wing.  Most folks paint it to match the color of their truck, but I tried to paint it to match my cladding.  It was not a very good effort on the match.  Thinking about throwing the Victory Red on it too.  In keeping with the black and red theme, what do you think?

Long story--put the small one on there because the big one was applied in a semi-inebriated state and didn't look good with all the BIG air bubbles!!

I think I like it black. The red may be a little too much sticking up there by itself.

My thoughts exactly--couldn't ever understand the color on top of the cladding.

lol....

You know what?   Try Line-X on the wing.  I would think it may be a close match and it will give you the textured look like the clad.

If you still dont like it, you can always sand it down again.

Sounds like a spring project.  My goal right now is to get the grill fixed/painted or replaced...............and maybe a couple of decals to keep me busy!!

That's what I used on my front bumper cover and valance.  Love how it looks!  It's not rattle can weather around here right now.  I was just going to get some opinions that I MIGHT do the wing while the grille was at the paint shop.  I thing the bumper cover would work well on the wing if I did all the cladding pieces too.

I like the Black look. Donnie nailed it when he said it would clash too much.

Then again...doesn't look right with the rack...need to remove either one and give it to me. :evil5:

but your '02 didn't have a roof rack. That and the color didn't clash as much as the red would.

With the deal that this guy has been giving me, if the entire truck could withstand the 400 degree oven, I would probably do it!!!    :uglystupid2:  I do have him working on a project for my hood. We just can figure out what part to do do since it has so many curves, etc.

lol....

You know what?   Try Line-X on the wing.  I would think it may be a close match and it will give you the textured look like the clad.

If you still dont like it, you can always sand it down again.

My vote is for black also. Why don't you just buy a couple of cans of spray-on Gatorblack? I used the 02 gray for my 4-fenders and, while it's not an exact match, you wouldn't notice unless you were really looking.

Does the gator spray-on leave a texture?

Does the gator spray-on leave a texture?

It has a wrinkle feature in the spray that's supposed to leave the same texture as the cladding. It slightly wrinkles when it's drying.

That was the first product I used on my lower valance to make it black.  Didn't match very well with the top cover.  I finally used Duplicor Bumper Coating on both pieces and it went on very nice and maintains the color very well.  I received a suggestion from my painter and actually saw some of his work.  He used undercoating spray on some plastic pieces and it came very nice after it was painted.  He said it has to be hot and no humidity for it to stick to fiberglass.  May give it a shot this spring when it warms up and topcoat the wing and cladding pieces with Duplicolor to match.

You could also try the Krylon Fusion. It is made for plastic. I used it on my PT Cruiser's bumpers and they turned out great.

I used some Black on my grill, but it turned out too shiny for that application.  I've already got about 10 shades of black going on as it is.  It did go on verynice though.  I used the Satin and not the gloss, but it was still too shiny.  Whatever I do, I want to fade it into the cladding pieces if I stay with black.

Working on my grill today.  Don't want to show up at a GTG without part of the AV in the garage.  Going to try to get them together in the next couple of weeks!  Since the MTAC website went down, have only talked to one member and know TrAV is around.  I'll see what I can do.  Have also tagged a couple in the last week or so.
