CANT SEEM TO FIND BLACKOUT TAIL LIGHT COVERS TO MATCH MY HEADLIGHT BLACKOUT COVERS....ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD FIND SOME COVERS THAT SNAP ON AND OFF?

or

IF I ORDERED NITE-SHADE AND CLEAR COAT SPRAY PAINT WOULD THAT BE EASIER TO DO? I JUST DONT WANT TO MESS UP MY LIGHTS BY SPRAY PAINTING THEM WHEN I COULD GET COVERS...ANY TIPS ON TAIL LIGHT TINTS? ANY HELP OR IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT! THANKS!

I havn't seen the snap on covers.....USMC0311 did the nite-shades on Darren's avy at Brat fest this year and it came out really great

I doubt Tail Light black out Covers are available for the 09. The 07+ are relatively new and demand for these parts may be low. Your best bet is to try night shades.

I believe these tail lights where also sanded a bit before applying paint.

so i need to sand them down? ok i think i would mess my lights up...if i brought them in, would i have to go to a special autobody shop? what would i ask for?

Directions on the can are pretty straight forward. You would only lightly sand them ( more of a scuff) so the paint adheres well.

Ohiobellboy is correct

Light sanding is all that is needed. USMC did a helluv a job! I've had several ask me if they came from the factory like that

just any sanding paper? do i need tape to go around edges so paint doesnt drip or get past light...should i paint whole light black? do i spray clear coat on when i am completely done spraying nite-shade or inbetween coats?

I think 1000 grit is what he used. MAKE SURE YOU TAPE OFF THE WHITE PART OF THE LENS first unless you want to also cover your backup lights. Here is a pix of what Darren's looks like now...you'll see what I mean about the reverse lights (and the brakes and turns) being taped over before work was begun.

man those lights look sick!

i think they look better with the brake and reverse lights kept the same color and everything else blacked out. any special tape? when i sand it down i just pretty much just do it lightly but enough to where i looks scratched or hazy? sorry if i might be asking same questions, but just really want to make sure i do this correctly cuz i only have 1 chance to do this.

He used clear tape over the reverse lights so he could see what he was doing and I think just blue painters tape everywhere else.

Make sure you take off lenses from truck before applying. The reason we kept the reverse/brake lights visible is for 2 reasons-better visibility (preventing rearend collisions) & in the state of MO is is actually illegal to darken lenses so this way it looks somewhat legal

. I actually did not use any clearcoat. After USMC applied the coats (if I remember correctly it was 3 coats) and it dried it actually looked better without the clearcoat compared to his so I decided to leave off and I am glad I did. If you use clear coat don't apply until you have applied all the coats you want and make sure it is completely dry. HTH!

No you will see by the pics I am about to post that his are more "glossy" looking than mine, actually like mine cause the clear and the wet sand makes it look just like the paint on the truck so looks completly stock (or that it is sprayed on the inside of the lens)!

I just spent the last hour writing eveything out with pics and all and I got logged somehow and lost the whole thing when I tried to post it! ARRRGHHH!

I believe there is a 90 second threshold when posting but not sure. When writing a large post, obviously it takes more than a minute to make, usually i copy everything as i go and paste it in clipboard just in case. Once you have everything, copy the entire post from clipboard and paste it in your actual post. That makes sense?

I think those are the ones made by IPCW.. I had the prototype pics of them from the Keystone show 3 years ago. They had problems with them with blinking too fast. But I think they have fixed it.. I will find out later today...
