Black Trim
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:29:09 PM »
Was looking into getting some things powdercoated and found out that Powder Xpress is about 7 miles from my house.  I didn't go crazy, but I did utilize their services this past week.  I will take/post some pics tomorrow.  Just got everything installed/reinstalled and cleaned up today.   :wavey:

First I bought some new exhaust tips and went to my muffler guy for some plumbing out the back.  Took them to the powdercoater and this is what you get.

I thought that the wheel wells were a little bare since I sold my big plastic flares.  I bought some TFP stainless steel fender trim.  The running boards, gas door and fender trim got some powdercoat.

Take the bumpers off and powdercoat the chrome. That should cap it off nicely.

I bet stock replacements are pretty plentiful in salvage yards. If you don't like it, it just gives you and excuse to buy some off-road bumpers. At least you have that option since you're WBH.

Not a fan of RED, no disrespect meant as I like red/black yellow/black color schemes.

My truck is black n blue, Arrival Blue cladded with black Teflon AR Mojave wheels, black front & rear bumper guards, roofrack,... front bowtie is blue. I will paint it black if I ever make last chrome piece blue, I think yours would look better with Chevy power bar across the front red and bowtie black

Have to wait and see after bumper install, it's always a mod in progress eh ?

Mod in progress is right.  Had the powerbar red at one time.  I may go back to it as I have cracked one of the arms as I was dismantling the bumpers....So I am looking for another grill piece to play with.  It is definitely too black in the front, but I will see what I can do to break it up.  Thanks for the suggestion!

Original chrome, went to red then black.  Since the arm is cracked, I'm not going to invest in paint for this one.  I'm looking for a used grille now, but no luck.  If anyone runs across one for sale give me a shout please.

I have the bumpers and installed the rear one today.  Can you say SAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEET??????????????

I know I need to post pics.  I'll get the front on tomorrow and snap some shots.

I had thought about it, but I think that your suggestion was a confirmation.  I really like how the rear end looks now.

I take that back.   Thats not going to fit.

Look at the lip of the hood of this silvy.  Is not the same hood line as our WBH's

See both pics.  Notice the difference?

It turned out great. I'll think about additions for a while and see if I come up with any ideas.

OK, after looking at it for a while, the only suggestions I came up with are - flat or matte (matte is my pick) black for the raised center portion of the cowl on the hood and body-color for the tailgate cladding. I considered suggesting the addition of plain black door rub strips like on the Silverados; I don't think they would look bad but might not add a whole lot either. They would at least keep the door dings down.

Thanks. Really thought about the hood idea.have a couple of dings to cover up in that area.  What do you mean about body-color on rear cladding? NO rub strips for me. I park far away from anyone. Thanks!!

Body color on the tailgate cladding. In my opinion the three colors back there are too much (I know, it's nit-picking but you asked for suggestions); it would look a lot cleaner if you painted the tailgate cladding red.

EDIT: I added a modified picture.

It has been so cold lately you don't want to mess with anything, but that little thing (The Mod Bug!!!) keeps telling you to get out there!

Yea right!!!  Wing cracked a few times, so took it off and sanded/primed/painted this past weekend when it was half-way nice outside.  Too cold to put it back together, so just brought it inside and did it on the kitchen table (wife out of town).  Fans go on tomorrow and hope to get the grille back on too.  Bad pic with phone.  Will get some once it's on the truck.

Update:  The bumpers have held up well, but the running boards are cracking and peeling.  Just noticed it after I cleaned it after the last snow.  Took it by my powdercoated and he said for me to drop them off Monday AM and he'd take care of it.  I love when people stand behind their work!!
