I'm just about done with a major mod in my 2002

I switched out the steering coulomb to a 2003 version. Discovered 2003 2500/3500 trucks/vans have compatible body bags with the 2002

Gained 8 stereo control buttons and the 4 dic buttons are momentary switches to ground... they can run air horns, lighting, HUD, anything really.

I also removed my stockish stereo and tape deck, DVD player, TV tuner/distribution center, RSE.......

and did the double din mod with a 2003 bucket and dash bezel. Threw in a china 7'' touch screen

Man you have way too much time on your hands! It looks great; I wouldn't have the cojones to tackle a big job like that. So did you keep it on the road while the modding was in progress or were you able to leave it sitting?

Great job. Looks great. I'd love to to do a stereo upgrade in Gina's but I'm afraid that will have to wait a while.

i have about 4 mo in this project. From brain fart to now. The airbag deal was the bigest gamble. but it worked.

3-4 hours to switch steering coulombs
a day to remove the old radio stuff and fit the new one

yes i drove it every day, no I dont have to much time.....

How did you removed the airbag cap off the steering wheel? Is there a pin or something?

There are pins on the back of the body bags that lock into the steering wheel. holes on the 02 are on the sides facing the gauges. on the 03 there are pin holes on each side facing the doors. Inserting poking device into the holes releases the pins and the bag comes off.

I see that 2500 still has the sunroof in it, wouldn't parting out the wind deflector would ya? The stinking plastic arms that bring the deflector back down on ours broke.

I tried the wind deflector fix but it didn't go so well.

Blue - Autowoods had some pretty good directions I followed when I put one of their wheels in my AV about getting the airbag off. It's been a long time, but I do recall having to stick a pin in a hole to get the airbag assembly to release from the wheel as Alaska describes.

ya the sunroof made it, I havent decided what to do with it yet. As it is not broken I dont think I'll part it out. Next time I'm at the wreaking yard I'll look for some parts 4 you.

Dibs on the piece inside the sunroof that pulls the interior shade out, if the sunroof becomes available.

How about the roof rack? Looks intact. Interested in letting that go?

the roof rack is hosed. only 1 cross bar is good along with the mounting feet, the rest is bent

as far as sun roof parts go, Tahoe, suburbans and ext , GMC's use the same parts.... I think

well after smoking a steering wheel DIC switch by not using a relay, like I should have, my plan to have the dic controls fire my new train horns is a reality.

funny , them switches cant handel real power.....

I have the horns tucked up in the Right rear above the exaust

I went to reply and it gave me fits too. Page might be taking errors for some reason. I'll pm BD and he'll look at it.

That compressor running in the back seat not going to bother you with the noise? Must have a loud stereo

I was thinking about that switch blowing in the SW. Was wondering how much amperage you were pushing through it to trigger that solenoid valve. Shouldn't have been that much.

No the compressor don't bother me at all, it's very quiet. Nowere near as loud as the other air comp under the back seat to run my over load bags....
Plus the stereo aint to bad....

I like the looks peeps give me when the comp goes off under their bumm
