Predator Tuning WTF?
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:39:56 PM »
So I finally got home and I finally got (at least) a Predator for the ole girl.  After I did my original backup and my first tune, she stalled twice?  After the original stall she ran just fine.  The second stall was after the lights were left on the the doors were left open (dead battery).  We jumped the Av and then we had another stall off of the jump, within a few minutes.  After the stall she ran fine again?  Is this supposed to happen after a tune or jump?  This made me really nervous but everything seems alright?  Just looking for some insight.

Thanks

Hmmm....  I would reprogram back to stock.  Remove the onstar fuse before you do.  Then tune it back.  Insert onstar fuse after you're done.

When I had hypertech, I had to do this but not sure on predator.

I'll give it a go and see what happens.  I have noticed that the tuner did not get rid of my dead spot in the pedal?  When I hit the fuel, there is still a delay before she takes off, TM is off.  I was hoping to get rid of the dead spot above all else :tickedoff: ...

I didn't have any of these problems when MyBigToy tuned mine with my Predator, maybe he'll chime in?  He knows his way around the Predator.

Sometimes when you reflash, especially multiple times in a short period of time, the idle has to relearn. You shouldn't have to reflash, just drive it for a short time and it should relearn pretty quickly. As far as the dead spot, you most likely need to eliminate the torque management to get rid of it - I think I remember that there's two things you have to do to completely eliminate it. You can also adjust the shift point rpms and mphs to work on the dead spot. It takes a while for the pcm to adjust once you do a reflash so don't expect to feel the complete end result until you've driven at varying speeds for a while - at least 40 miles. In my experience the pcm keeps learning and adjusting for 100-150 miles. You can also adjust your injector slope and timing but you should have someone with experience help with that, at least the first time.

I forgot to mention you can considerably shorten the shift times and increase the shift pressures some to help with the shift feel also.

Sweet, I'll see if I can round someone up who knows about timing and the such so I don't screw the pooch.  I have played with the shift points and TM is off.  I'll see what I can come up with and report later.

plus, between tune flashes, you need to actually start up the vehicle and run it for a few seconds... you shouldn't just flash a tune, and then flash another tune...

and you DEFINITELY do not want to have the lights on, or doors open when you try to flash the ecm...

that creates a power drain and fudges the ecm flash....

this has all the indications of user error during the install/flash process...
