When chrome bowties fail
« on: April 14, 2010, 07:02:26 PM »
Living in the Midwest, the weather can be harsh to anything Chrome. I purchased this chrome bowtie 3 years ago and the chrome is peeling off.  Taking note that i have not driven my AV much and not at all in the past 2 winters.  If we divide it, that's just 1 year on the road including 1 winter.

In all, chrome is garbage if not taken care of, just like chrome wheels.  Take the wheels off during the winter and store them in a dry place along with the other chrome details that are easy to remove.

Since i cant see myself painting the bowtie, i have no choice but to purchase a new one.  ::sigh::

Remove the chrome from this one, paint it or cover it some way and keep it as a spare.

i got mine re-chromed for $20 or $25 if i remember right...cheaper than a new one for 50 or 60 that will FAIL AGAIN. guy at the shop (http://www.stlplating.com/) said the chinese chrome is sh*t. they do triple plating since they do mostly bike parts. been through one winter so far and looks great still. the previous one bubble up and flaked after one HALF a winter.
