New speaker wire!
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:53:06 AM »
OK, I need some help.  I'm still in the process of installing my new stereo system which includes a new head unit, amp, speakers and wires.  My speaker wires are two 14GA wires spiral wrapped in clear tubing (Streetwires from Crutchfield), my question is what is the best way to get the new wires through the rubber boot between the body and the door?  I plan to leave the original speaker wires in place in case I want to remove my upgraded system and go back to original.
Any help would be great!!!

Thanks, FH

With the door panel and kick panel off you should be able to run either a coat-hanger or a fish tape wire from inside the door and through the rubber boot to the inside of the kick panel. You should then be able to attach the wire and pull it through with the fish tape/coat hanger.

I'm not sure if your '02 has the same setup as my '04 but you may run into a white plastic connecting block mounted in the door itself. Check out my thread on adding rear door lights on an '04 and you'll see what I had to do to get more wires into the rear doors.

Have you tried a salvage yard? I think parts off of a suburban or even a silverado might fit.

When I did my big system in my 02 I replaced my front boots with new back ones with no molox plug in them. Remember with the amps in the rear doors it was not easy...
