hey everyone. just got the truck and wanna start with my first mod. wanna give it some sound. which would be the best? i want something thats gonna sound tough.

It's all personal choice. They all claim to be the best. I use the Flowmaster 40 and like it but has a drone in the cabin at 2000RPM. Most folks don't like that as it is annoying.

Search on YouTube.com for these exhausts for the avalanche and silverados. You can tell the difference on these or you could attend one of our meets and find out in person.

Congrats on your new ride!!!!!

I'm running the Flowmaster S40 and I love it!! I don't know much about the others so I can't comment, sorry.

I think it was northjerseyavy (sic) that just put the FM44 on his. There's a recent thread in the exhuast section with a video clip.

I really like the sound of the Flowmasters but they supposedly don't flow as well as either Magnaflow or Gibson. I've got a Gibson and have been fairly happy with it; the main reason I got it was a cheap price. If I was springing for a stainless system I would go with a Magnaflow. The larger the body of the muffler the less drone and resonance you will get.

I've actually considered trying a Classic chambered muffler; they make a 48" muffler for the Corvette that will fit under the Av. It's a straight-through muffler and the longer length will give it a deeper sound. They also only cost around $78.

i tried listening to them on youtube but i cant get a good idea from my laptop speakers lol.

i got quoted $400 for the flowmaster s40 plus i supply my own magnaflow tips. the tips will come out in the stock location on both sides.
is that a good deal?

from what i gathered the flowmaster s40 is gonna be the loudest? magnaflow is gonna be really quiet

I paid $450 and that because my chrome tips where $100 each and the unusual pipe routing for duals in the avalanche. The Flowmaster 40 is what about $130?

I got denied twice by muff shops simply because the fuel line are in the way for routing the driver side pipe. My last attempt at another muff shop,he was willing to do it.

I think I paid in the neighborhood of $250 to get a custom catback with a flowmaster 70 series muffler. The 70 series is the quietest of the flowmasters that you can put on an Avalanche, and I am quite happy with it. You definitely know it isn't stock, but obnoxious it is not.

well i ended up going with the flowmaster s40. sounds good but still too quiet for me. i hope it gets louder after it breaks in.

Put on some headers

....it should get better with age.

My JBA shorties didn't seem to affect how loud my truck is, although with a louder muffler to start with that may not be the case.

If you want louder, you may want to try going mufflerless, just using the cats to muffle the engine sound. I've heard one truck that was mufflerless and it didn't seem to bad from outside - don't know what it's like to live with on the inside.

Another option is to use an electic exhaust cutout - you could switch back and forth between your fm 40 and going no muffler.

Yes.

I pulled the headers from above. Only time i went under was to unbolt.

Very easy. It took a couple hours.

Since removing the cats would be illegal for other than off-road use, I doubt that anyone here will fess up to that.

lol. i had my 02 trans am modded up and had long tubes with no cat and i even passed emissions with it
