Author Topic: 2002 Must Have Parts (Read 1527 times)

Hey Everyone,

Since Egypt has few to no replacement parts for the avalanche I was wondering what you guys would recommend me stocking up on while I visit Saudi Arabia. They've got many dealerships and "Auto zones" I can visit in order to get what I need.

Performance wise,
Completely Stock Av... :(

So far I just hit 100,000K Miles on the AV... I plan to replace the serpentine belt with the "Gatorback" I got from the States..

I've got plenty of AC Delco Fuel/Oil/Air filters

Ill be getting a couple of cabin air filters....

I have 2 pairs of 8 "Iridium spark plugs" by Bosch

2 PVC valves...

What else would I need or should I change?

AND.. Im gunna get a K&N air intake while over there

and wanted to know whether I would have to retune or do wnything like that?

Im going to need a water pump too I think... Everytime I turn on the AC I hear these wierd ringing/rattling sound coming from the engine and from what Ive observed/read on these sites, the bearings from the pump usually wear out and make the same noise.

If the noise occurs when you turn the a/c on it's more likely the compressor than the water pump.

I would get ....

1) Gas Filter
2) Shocks
3) Spark Plug Wires
4) Air filter (for the engine)
5) do you get rain often? What about wipers?
6) Brake Pads ...

just to name a few parts ....

If you get a K&N Kit don't forget the Recharge kit for it and also a MAF cleaner. I did my MAF on my 02 for the first time at 100K and it woke up
the truck. Now on my 08 I do it every 5K. How about some good Wax? and other cleaners..

Good point! I'll look into getting both

2 more items to the list...

I want to Gatorback the Plastic trim so badly, make it that darker 03 cladding color...

I think you said you just hit 100k mileage .... if so and the wire have never been replaced, now is a good time .... yes they can deteroriate over time .... I usually change mine every 50k ..... and if you can upgrade to Taylor Thundervolt wires .... very nice upgrade .... I know they made them for my '03 ... not sure about the '02 ...

shocks would be the same answer .... should be changed every 50k .... and I upgraded to Rancho rs9000xl shocks ... very nice!!! .... I got the adjustable ones .... but I also had a z-71 4x4 ....

I've got one last fuel pump... maybe I should get another.

Don't forget the MAF Cleaner.. It wiill do wonders and it only takes about 10 mins to do...

If you have not replaced all of your cooling system hoses yet, I would get those. I have a 2002 and I replaced all of my hoses when I did my 100k service.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all the responses!!!

So far I've picked up the following,

1 x Water Pump (With the two gaskets)
2 x Monroe "Sensa-Trac" Shock absorbers #3 (First time the front shocks will be replaced)
2 x Replacement turn signal bulbs for the flaking Sylvanias
Several steering parts inorder to take care of some issues I have with the steering.
1 x ACDelco replacement Spark plug wires (First time to replace these too)

I'll be going back to get,

4 x Cabin air filters
As many of the cooling systems hoses I can find.. (Thanks

I can't get a MAF cleaner because I'm pretty sure the airlines won't allow me to even place it in checked baggage...

I have'nt found the correct K&N filter intake set yet... But I'm still searching.
I'd love to replace the rear shocks but the guy at the shop wasnt sure which shocks would fit and whether there were any sensors or wires connected to the rear shocks on the 2002 Z71 AV... so, I'm trying to figure it out as well.
WISH! They HAD GATORBACK COATINGS!!!! ARGH! I'll just import a can I guess...

As for the shocks, I know the Reflexes are probably better, but all he had at the time were the Sensatracs. At this point I think any shocks would be better than the stocks... 100,000 Miles without a change! AH!!!

Am I missing anything?

The Z71 should have no wires or sensors on the rear shocks only if you had the Z66 Auto ride opt.

I heard Meguiar's waxes were the best and I happened across a bunch at the hardware store down here

so I picked up a can of paint wax and this other product for the plastic called "Meguair's Direct Gold Class Trim Detailer".

Anyone know if this stuff will darken/restore the color of faded plastic on an 02 avalanche?

These $10-$14 products will do the job ok for a day or two. You would have to keep up constantly.

Gatorback is expensive but most folks are liking "Finish Restorer". It last longer than spray bottles and its cheaper than Gatorback.
