Milemarker or Warn winch?
« on: April 09, 2010, 03:58:42 PM »
I'm not sure why but I've been looking at winches and come across two that I like.  The Milemarker appears to be a decent winch at a reasonable price and the Warn appears to be an awesome winch at an expensive price.  The Milemarker can be had for about half the price of the Warn but I'm sure the Warn is very proven.  I was looking at 12klb winches in both makes, the Milemarker is their newest winch but I can't remember the number  banghead1 and the Warn is the winch with the air compressor, #71801.  Some feedback would be nice, like I said, I'm not sure why I'm looking right now but I am.

Thanks!

Hey FH,
As I was passing by your truck the other day, I thought it would look cool if the wheels were camouflaged.

Here is a post we lost yesterday.   banghead1

I've read the reviews and I do agree, Warn is the better winch but I can pick up a Milemarker for about half the price!  I've always wanted a winch but not sure how much I'll use it?  Maybe once I get one I'll find more uses?

I can not say which I would have if I had to use it every day. I have a Superwinch on my trailer that saw lots of use during my drag racing days. The last decade my trucks have packed a Milemarker.
Other than cleaning and repacking the grease it has had no maintenance. It probably did not need the grease changed, but I felt better checking it out.

It has done more "work" than recoveries:

I picked mine up "new" in box from a friend who needed school money. $400 with a cradle for a Milemarker 9500# winch. money well spent for both my needs and his.
I changed the roller fairlead for an aluminum fairlead and swapped the cable to synthetic rope. Those lighten things up a little.
My experiences have been all positive. I would buy another.

Mine mounts on a hitch mount, so I don't have to pack it all the time on my daily driver.

Think carefully how you will use it. Line speed , amperage, rated pull, warranty, replacement parts, price, weight, etc. All are things to consider. Just how much you will use it? In my case it has been a lucky charm. As long as it is with me, I don't "NEED" it.
