Anybody with Talent out There Interested in $1050?
« on: May 12, 2009, 08:57:47 AM »
We had some support for Indiana's oldest continuously running summer theatre a couple of weeks ago at their silent auction/car show - now the Shawnee Theatre is having a talent contest with a $1900 cash pursue, not to mention season tickets.

I don't have the kind of talent they are looking for, but maybe you do?  If somebody is up for this, you are welcome to visit at the house, hopefully get relaxed, etc. before the audition, and if you are selected for the semi-finals, I'm sure we'll be able to generate a gtg around your performance to help stuff the ballot-box in your favor!

From the press release:

SHAWNEE THEATRE ANNOUNCES Talent Competition
One Lucky Winner will walk away with $1000!
BLOOMFIELD, IN - Shawnee is hosting its first talent competition.  The preliminary competition will be May 30, 2009.  To sign up for a slot email shawneeauditions@gmail.com.  An email response will be sent with your time slot.  You will be given up to eight minutes to show your ability.  A piano and boom box will be provided, however you must bring your own accompanist or CD.  There is a limit to the amount of competitors so do not wait to enter!
The competition is intended to be for performance based abilities such as singing, dancing, acting, comedy, etc.  Please keep your routine family friendly!  If you have any question visit www.shawneetheatre.org for details on the competition.

The Shawnee Theatre, Indiana?s oldest continuously running summer theatre, is located just a mile south of downtown Bloomfield at 4 Furnace Road. For more information contact mattegraber@gmail.com or go to www.shawneetheatre.org.

###
Guidelines to the 2009 Shawnee Theatre Talent Competition
We are excited that you are interested in competing in Shawnee?s 1st Talent Competition fundraiser!  As part of our 50th season, we are excited to reward the talent of our community.  There are just a few steps and guidelines to our competition. If you have any questions please email shawneeauditions@gmail.com.
1)    The competition is performance based.  That means that we are looking for talents such as: musical ability, comedy routines, acting routines, dancing, etc.  A great number of talents can fit under this umbrella.
2)    The competition is meant to be family friendly.  Songs and/or routines of  adult nature will not be considered for the semifinals.
3)    Entries may have a maximum number of four participants.  Solo performances are encouraged.  However, four person coral groups are welcomed as well.
4)    There is a mandatory $5 entry fee per entry.  Entry fees will be collected the day of the initial audition on May 30, 2009.
Semi-Final Competition Prizes
1)    All semi-finalists will win 1 season ticket to the Shawnee Theatre?s 50th Season.
2)    One Entry will be selected from each Semi-Final Competition on June 15, 16 and 17, 2009 at 8pm, to compete in the final competition  on June 20, 2009 at 3pm.  Each one of these competitors will be awarded a prize of $50.
Grand Prizes
During the final competition cash prizes will be given for the following winning entries:
    3rd Place: $250
    2nd Place $500
    1st Place: $1000
The Competition will work as follows:
1)    We will accept 60 preliminary competitors that will compete on May 30, 2009.  A panel of three individuals from the Shawnee Theatre will assess them.
2)    24-30 competitors out of the chosen 60 will be selected to go on the Semi-Final rounds which will take place on June 15, 16, and 17, 2009 at 8pm.
3)    During the Semi-Final round, the competitors will display their routine in front of a live audience during the first half of a performance.
4)    The audience will vote on their favorite talent entry at intermission.  During the second act, performers from the Shawnee Company will entertain the audience while votes are being counted.
5)    One winner will be declared every night of the semifinal competition and will go on to compete in the Finals.
6)    The Final Competition will work much like the Semi-Finals.  The 3 finalists will demonstrate their talent during the 1st half of the evening.  The audience will again vote during intermission.  The votes will be counted and the winners will be declared at the end of the 2nd half of the evening.

To Sign Up
Please email shawneeauditions@gmail.com to obtain an audition slot.  You will have a ten-minute slot in order to show your talent.  Please plan for any set up or take down time you will need.  If you need accompaniment, it will be your responsibility to bring a boom box and CD in order to audition.  All auditions will take place in the lobby of the Shawnee Theatre.  For directions to the theater please see www.shawneetheatre.org and click Directions.

Hmmm...I have talent - but I'm not sure I'd have the guts to do this!

19 people signed up, so the format has changed and the payout has decreased.  I believe first place is now $500.
