It's been a few years since I organized a GTG so I decided it was time.  I'm combining a couple of interests of mine into one gtg.

The wife and I are board members of a local summer theatre, Shawnee Theatre, which is the longest consecutively running summer theatre in the state I believe.  We are celebrating our 50th season this year with some special events.  Here is a link to the theatre web site:  http://www.shawneetheatre.org/

Over the course of the 50 seasons, we have helped some aspiring young actors and actresses get started on their professional careers.  Some of you may be familiar with at least one of our alumni, John Belushi, who graced our stage back in the '60s.  Two seasons ago I was at one of our musical performances (a biography of Hank Williams), and we had a surprise when John Mellencamp and his lovely wife came to the show.  It was a thrill for our young stage company to get a group photo taken of them with Mr. Mellencamp.  (Mr. Mellencamp by the way was driving a Range Rover.)

On May 2nd, the theatre is having a silent auction fund-raiser at the Greene County Fairgrounds, just east of bustling Switz City, IN.  To help draw crowds, we have invited a local car club to show off their classic rides.  I figure why not show off some of our unique vehicles too to help add to the event.  The car club was asked if they would do a car show, but they said they did not get enough notice time to get one organized.  They will show some of their cars, but won't be trying to pull in from far and wide with trophies, judging, etc.  Should be a laid back show - you should be able to see some nice classics, and if you want to you can take a look for some items of interest in the silent auction.  (Sunburst - would love to see either the AV or the Impala!)

The silent auction is scheduled to run from 11-2.  I'll probably show up at 9 to help get things organized.

After the show, we can drive the 20 miles to Shakamak State Park and enjoy a ptich-in cookout.  Here is a link for the state park:  http://www.in.gov/dnr_old/parklake/properties/park_shakamak.html

I know it is a short notice, and conflicts with a gtg in Missouri, but if you aren't going to Missouri, we'd love to have you with us in southern Indiana to start off the month of May with an Avalanche get-together!

Sign up here at identify what you are bringing for the pitch-in.

Signed up:

Main One and Minor One - Brats
Z66 Butch and Jo Momma - salad & chips
Didit and Lu - Desert
CntrySngr 72 and crew - salad

Sounds good Butch.  Hopefully you can reschedule.

Can you add this event to your Region calendar and help to publicize it at other Avalanche sites that you might frequent?   :lipssealed:

Boy this is very tempting but I have a show already scheduled with the Impala for May 2nd and have already submitted my entry fee. If for some reason it would get rescheduled for rain or something else I'll be there with the AV.

Butch - got  you down as coming.

Sunburst - understand - hopefully it rains where your show is, and not down this way.

Didit - are you coming?  How did your test results come out?  Hopefully it was good news, or at least not too bad?

Guys, I hate that I can't make this GTG.  I would love to but I've signed up and already paid for a diving class that day.  The class is from 10am until 4pm in Evansville IN.  At least I'll be in the right state.

 :needhug:

2011 Silverado, Ext Cab Z-71 5.3, 6L80, Airaid CAI, Magnaflow cat-back, and a little tuning by me and HPT.

Gone but not forgotten, 2002 Victory red. The quickest lifted 4x4 AV in the US in it's day.

Bob - I know how you drive better than that, LOL!  Depending upon where in Evansville you were at, you could be at the cookout before 6!  The real party would just be starting!  Heck, you'd be almost halfway here anyway!

We'd be sure to keep a few Brats ready to throw on the barbie as soon as you arrived.  You could camp, or stay at the house.  (I've stayed enough times at yours, that's for sure!)  Now that Rachel's 21, she could legally show you were all the night-time action is around these parts.  Or, Devon could do video games with you all night long.  I don't have a cam or anything like that we could install on Sunday, but I do need to replace my rear brake rotors and spindles so we could do some wrenching.....

Or there's Redbird State Riding Area.  For $10 each we could legally have a blast in the dirt with the Suburban and either your AV or the Jeep!

Bob - you know you want to come.  You'd be halfway there (almost) anyway.  Amber and the kids would love to see you.  It wouldn't be warm enough yet most likely to get your bikini friends into their bikinis.  What else are you going to do with the rest of your weekend?

Edit - I just confirmed that Evansville is in the central time zone, we are eastern, so you wouldn't be able to get here until around 7.  We'd still keep the Brats, etc for you, and we'd still have a blast!

Let me do some research.  Just to confirm, you are in the eastern time zoze and you do observe daylight savings time?  (I know that IN is screwy when it comes to time)

During our current governor's first term, he screwed around with our already screwy time.  Indiana now statewide observes daylight savings time.  The bulk of the state is on eastern time.  Several counties around Evansville and the Chicago area decided to go on central time.  (Not sure, but counties near Louisville may also be on central.)  For about a year, a couple of years back, I lived in eastern but worked in central, when the county I worked in decided initially to go on central time.  After a while, the finger of counties stretching up from Evansville on central time shrunk back to where it is now, so I now live and work in the eastern time zone.

The times listed are eastern daylight savings time.

GREAT NEWS for now, lol.   After I left a menacing voice mail, and faxed my own Dr about the problem of communication, the Lung Dr called me this evening and says every thing looks fine as far as what they were looking at, lol.  Still no explanation as to why the enlarged lymphnodes though, more testing I suppose which he confirmed, but at least its not cancer which would of showed up with the petscan ct!  There is some coloring in the scan which he is going to go more in depth with me at a later time, probably next week.    I feel sooooooo much better now, put me on the list for the 2nd, might just make it a camping weekend after all, wooohooooo

I suppose those question marks aren't for MOLLY huh, hmmmm

I'll bring some sort of dessert, pike, cake, brownies or something

What time are you planning on meeting at the fairgrounds?  I'm guessing around 10 or so?

And if we bring the camper, if there are not to many folks your more than welcome to come to the campsite to cookout (DNR frowns on large crowds for one campsite)    Come to think of it Greg, pack the tent!   Join in, lol.

10 or so would be a good time to get to the fairgrounds.

If you bring the camper, I'll look into bringing the tent.

LOL Funny you mention that, Shakamak was the girls first adventure on a diving board, when they used to swim in the lake, they have a pool now, and up on the paddle boat pier i lost a pole and a lawn chair, lol.  Got the chair back with a grappling hook but never did get the pole or the fish that pulled it in, grrrrrrr

I'll take you up on those biscuits Sunday morning!

I won't be setting up until after the cookout on Saturday.  Work is always getting in the way.  I figure I should be getting home from going to Vegas today around 6 or so Friday evening.

You should drop by the house Friday evening.  If interested I'll PM details.

Is Indiana 37 south the best way to go and is it still a speed trap? What about road construction, do I neeed to allow any extra time?

It's a rule, a member has to miss at least 3 GTG's that they were on the list for before a pool can be started!

Can we get in the campground without a camping permit? Some of the state parks that we have stayed at have a "guard shack" near the campgrounds and you must show your camping permit before they will let you in..........or because it is early in the season maybe they are not staffed?

Its like 4 or 5 bucks to get in, however I always buy a annual parks pass, sooooo if you were to call me before you get there I could meet you outside of the park and give it to you, because I will have a camping permit to get myself in, lol.  shhhhhh let me know!

I know about getting into the park, I was asking about getting back to the campground........is there no one checking for camping permits? Around here unless you are camping they don't want you back there. Are we picnicking in the campground area or in a picnic area?

Very sorry for not being more active on this topic.  In Las Vegas this week for work, and the computers at the hotel won't let me post or modify my posts here because of "adult content".   :idiot2:  I'm doing this from the Nellis AFB O Club.

Butch, when Amber and I scoped out the campground last weekend, there was no one stopping us for a camping permit.  Had to pay the $5 to get into the park as Didit mentioned of course.

Didit had mentioned just cooking out at the campground, but since it looks like we will have 4 AVs and maybe the Mrs's Suburban, I asked Minor One to book a shelter for us.  That way we won't be hassled and won't be bothering anyone else.  I don't know which shelter she has reserved.  I'll call her later and send an email via the blackberry to Butch for posting here.

Didit, we've got a board meeting for the theatre at the fairgrounds Friday evening at 7, and will also be working to set things up for the auction Saturday morning at the end of the meeting.  May drop by and visit you at the campgrounds after that.

I'll pm my cell # to you guys - Butch, please pass it on to CntrySngr for me.  I know, you both probably already have it.  And I promise to carry it around with me after getting back to the Indy airport (and the AV) around 4 tomorrow afternoon.

As a normal rule, your allowed to have visitors at the campsite if they are not overly busy, two vehicles for most campsites and most state parks, there are exceptions however, that being said, you know we could drive em in if needed to save the cost of the shelter, its not that far from the overflow lot, and your vehicles would be perfectly safe, campgrounds as you know, are a totally different world than the outside!

We are getting things ready. Jomomma made the broccoli salad this morning and I did some packing and gathering up things that we may need. Besides the broccoli salad we are bringing a bag of tortilla chips and a bag of pretzels + some plastic forks.......anything else needed?

I'm bringing Macaroni salad, and probably some hamburgers for Lisa - she's not a Brat fan...but that's okay.  Hopefully it doesn't rain on us.  We'll be heading out around 11:00 from here - should make it to the theatre around 1:00.

Is the park a DNR park?  I have an annual pass, so I hope so!  Wish I could camp - but not a fan of camping in a tent in the rain...got flooded out too many times - got pneumonia the last time.

Looking forward to seeing you guys...my AV is a bit of a mess and the rain won't stop long enough to clean it!!

DNR, yea it is a State Park, so I guess so. I think Main One is getting us a shelter so rain should not be a factor. If it stops for a while I may ask you to help install a relay like you had installed for your running board lights on your Red Avalanche.........I need one to turn off the underbody lights that are triggered by the key fob.

Hey everyone - I just got back from visiting with Didit, Lu and Molly in the campground.  They are high and dry in their camper, and were enjoying watching last night's Bullrun when I knocked on their door.

Didit has talked me into doing our cookout at their campsite, plus I have reserved the one across from them as well.  If it is raining, we will get a shelter.  With it still early in the season, and the weather, that shouldn't be a problem at the last minute.

CntrySng - we will be at the Greene County Fairgrounds before going to the Park.  On the map below, it is about 2/3s of the way from Switz City and the junction east of there of highways 54 and 57.  You should be able to see us easily driving by on 54.  (Switz City is located at the junction of highways 54 and 67 (between Linton and Bloomfield).  The fairgrounds is roughly halfway between Bloomfield and Linton.)

Looking forward to tomorrow,

M1

Greg says he looked at the weather channel this morning.  He says we are right on the line of where the rain stops and hopefully we will stay on the right side.  This is Greg's wife, Amber or Minor One (so he calls me) posting for him.  Enjoy your day all.

Greg says he looked at the weather channel this morning.  He says we are right on the line of where the rain stops and hopefully we will stay on the right side.  This is Greg's wife, Amber or Minor One (so he calls me) posting for him.  Enjoy your day all.

Greg was correct (much better than the weather folks do) not a drop of rain all day, we even had SUNSHINE!! Thanks we had a great time and those guys in the car club seemed to like our trucks!

After the show we headed to the campsites for a cookout and a little modding. We had not been to Shakamak State Park in 42 years! I used to go there while in high school and jomomma & I went there once after we were married.......

I had cleaned & re-oiled all of my teak at the car show and was wore out. Steven decided that he would try to fix my underbody lights while Mike installed new splash guards on Steven's Avalanche.

Greg cooked us brats and hotdogs, all of us brought a dish and we had a good meal and a great time.... Thanks Main One for a great time!

Nice pics. I especially liked using the mini-bats to hold the hood partially open.

Thanks. We got those bats at another GTG at the Louisville Slugger Museum. I wanted my hood only part way open so you can still see the flames on the hood.........

I didn't take any pictures either.

I know Didit did - he took some around the campfire after some of you left.

He camped out - he and Lu are probably recovering from the big weekend right now after pulling their camper trailer home today.

Thanks again to everyone who came.  I really had a good time, and hope you had as good a time as I did.  I wish I would have had more time to plan and promote the gtg, but with work having me on the road the last 2 weeks, among other responsibilities, wasn't able to do as much as I would have liked.  Nevertheless, it seemed like it came together in the end and we all seemed to have a good time.

Thanks again for coming - we may have to do this again next year!

Looks like a good time was had by all.  I wish I could have been there but it just wasn't in the cards.

2011 Silverado, Ext Cab Z-71 5.3, 6L80, Airaid CAI, Magnaflow cat-back, and a little tuning by me and HPT.

Gone but not forgotten, 2002 Victory red. The quickest lifted 4x4 AV in the US in it's day.
