Did you know?A 'Vortec' 8.1L V8 produces 340 hp (253 kW), for the three-quarter-ton 2500 series.

Ya I know the name sounds bad but.......06monteSS (Lew) on the DiabloSport site does custom tuning for guys with Predator programmers. I'm thinking that I'm going to take the plunge and let him tweak the Buffalo's tune file for me.He has a lot more experience at tuning than I will ever be able to do right now.So.......It's sort of like hiring my own DiabloSport professional tunerAny comments??WB
name sounds bad..
Ok..... so i own a Predator for almost 2 yrs now. ....and yet,i dont know anything about it.How do you upload/Dload tunes to your computer?Do i need a interface cord or some sort?
yes, you need the power adapter and serial-to-serial cable, or the serial-to-usb cable, and a couple of diablosport apps...what model and revision is your predator??when it boots up to the main menu, there is a number at the top of the screen, that's the revision number....
I have the VR7193 I registered the product when i got it but really didnt look into it as in to learn on how to use it. The only thing i did was to upload it per instrucions after i installed the blower and removed the "torque management". I didnt mess with the shifting points or anything. The only issue i have is, i installed better servos,shift-kit,seperator plate and now i have a slight delay when shifting to second gear. Maybe upping the pressure lines fix this? I dont know.Is the adaptor available for purchase?
well, if it's a delay in the shifting, it'd be the shift speed you'd need to adjust, not the pressure... the line pressure adjusts how hard it shifts into gear... the shift speed adjusts how fast/slow it shifts into gear...as for the power adapter and cable, you can get diablosport's pc interface kit, or can buy the stuff yourself from a radio shack or walmart cheaper....you'd need to get:- 12VDC, 1.0A Power Supply, 2.5mm x 5.5mm Plug - center positive- 9 pin, Male to Female, Straight through Serial Cable Extension -- IF you have a serial port on your PC... if you don't have a serial port on your pc, you'd need to get a serial-to-usb cable...-Lew
and, since it's a couple years old, you're probably on a 2.xx revision - so you'd need to download and install the GM PC Interface application to your PC in order to import/export tune files... http://diablosport.com/downloads/predator/GM03_07Predator_Interface_108.exe
WOW.....Whatever he tweaked a little seems to have woke up the AV some more yet!!! Thanks,WB
This sucks. Im not home to mess with all this stuff.Did you get it via email?
great, now I got to do this....lol. It never ends
I don't remember which one worked.... I could all ways copy the one in the truck, um maybe I got to drive a 1000 miles next week, maybe I should leave well enough alone. ok, were do I send em?
Sentcha some info Blue... disregard the part about doing a data log... forgot you had the older version that can't log...
Remember to do the save current tune step with the predator! 1.Power the Predator up in the vehicle and select ?Tune it? from the main menu. 2.Go through the disclaimer until you see the next menu and select ?save current data?. (Now be aware that mine was hidden under another menu item called troubleshoot) 3.This process will take a few minutes, and when finished you will be asked to cycle the key. 4.Once the vehicles current data is saved, you may unplug the Predator and connect the tool to your PC with the serial cable and power it up. 5.Open the 99-02 or 03-06 PC interface software. 6.On the Predator, choose ?Options?, then leave ?PC Communications? highlighted. 7. Under ?Upload from Predator to PC, press the ?Vehicle current file? button. 8.Name the file or leave the default name. Be sure to use the same file extension if renaming the file. 9.Press OK on the PC, then enter on the tool to begin the file transfer. 10.There is a status bar in the lower left hand corner that shows what % of the file has been uploaded. 11.Once complete, you will see a message stating ?Upload complete?. The vehicle current tune is now saved to your PC. WB
Been traveling and haven't checked in for a while - You guys got Lew to sign on & offer his expertise I see I've had a custom tune from him since last summer and my MPG barely dropped during the winter, even after upgrading to a 22" wheel/tire combo. Most of the drop can be attributed to warm-up time as well, as the mpg was fairly consistent when on the road.He can do so much more than the handheld Predator b/c he owns the software suite. It's just like having HPT. I only wish they would've been able to figure out the TCM. That's the only issue I have. Firmer, faster shifts would really be nice, as well as being able to remove the TM. Oh well, it's a helluva lot more powerful than it was stock, so I have no real complaints.
I wish that was the case OBB, but I have an '07, which means it's the U7194 Predator. They never added TCM support to '07 and beyond models...
can I send you the custom tune I got DS to fiddle with? to your e-mail?
OBB and WB - how those tanks runnin now???!!!
msn is on AIM is booting up
Well during a trip up and down the highway today I monitored my ltft's, They were coming in consistantly at 0 and -0.78 so it's pretty close to where it needs to be.
yupper man, that's perfect!!next step is to get me a WOT log....;)
can't log with the antique I have. What should my passenger be looking for when doing this other than cops?
blaaaah, that's right.. another oldie... hahaha..eh, it's a log easier with a log.. won't be able to see everything all at once that you need to...need to watch for any KR, and if there is any, you need to know at what rpm it happened at, and what the KR value is at that rpm point where it happened, and what your ltft's are at (should be 0 or slightly negative the whole time you're WOT)... and you don't have any AFR parameter on that older one either, so seeing what your AFR is at to be able to adjust your WOT fueling is not feasible... I mean, I can still adjust it, but without knowing what the AFR is, is not good...
Without a wideband to actually measure the AFR, the next best bet is to look at the narrowband sensor voltages. They won't give an accurate reading, but you can tell if you are likely pretty far off. They should be around 870 to 910 mV. If they aren't in this window, then adjustment to the MAF calibration is in order, if you are happy with the AFR enrichment values.
I wouldn't go by the narrowbands either... when I first got into all this a few years ago, I did that... and going by those narrowband numbers they tell ya to shoot for, when I added more fuel to get up to those values, it made my car RICH as hell.... once I really got into it and learned a lot more, I don't change my WOT fueling at all anymore... once my LTFT's were dialed in correctly, it was right where it should be - 12.6 - 12.8... but for the trucks, they seem to run on the rich side, even when the LTFT's are dialed in...and as far as the AFR value reading on the predator, it's just about dead on for N/A vehicles...have had a few guys with gto's and vettes do dyno runs with a wideband and their predator's hooked up to log it... predator AFR value was just about dead on as compared to the wideband... only off by .1 or .2 -- on the richer side of what the wideband was reading... wideband was reading 12.6, 12.7 and predator was reading 12.5, 12.6....
I I'M for my home computer.....and I will have you know, I put AIM on my laptop just for you. I'll never get anything done now! thanks.......
well just drove 300 miles. had the wife watch the pred. 2 things i learned that the wife picked up on reading it quickly. After 100 miles she said "Slow down your fuel trims just doubled" "Hay keep it under 1900rpm" I'm concerned that the long term fuel trims were around +1.56 @1950rpm This is way rich right?1850-1900rpm .7825deg air temp190 coolent temp, haha my fans never came on lol
naah... that's not way rich... it's not bad at all... WAY rich would be +10... hahaha...you can adjust your injector slope -2%, and you'll be golden.have you adjusted your injector slope before at all?? if you have, then just go to the left another -2% from whereever it's set at now... i.e. if it's at -4% already, then make it -6%...if you have not adjusted the slope at all before, then the adjustment slider will be at 0, so adjust it to be -2%.
You guys change injector slope to fix your fuel trims? Interesting. I adjust the airflow calculations.I'm currently happy with LTFTs between 0.5 and -4.5. When your fuel trim is positive, it is fixing a lean condition, so no it itsn't too rich. I showed some up near +10 yesterday when it was over 70 degrees out. Will do a log tomorrow morning when it is forecast to be below freezing. Trying now to get consistent readings across the temperature swings by adjusting ambient air temp versus coolant temp bias values. My trims were going quite positive when the mercury dropped. My last tune was showing I was going in the right direction - after tomorrow morning we'll see where this tune is. Will probably adjust the MAF calibration on the low end (where I've got positive trims) in the next tune to get things into the desired range - may need to tweak the VE table as well.
Is this 1 cord? Say,USB on one end and the 9 pins on the other? Im home now and getting ready to go to wallyworld. My laptop does not have serial ports
My version is GM03 Predator 2.08Maybe is out-of-date?
Blue, you've got HPTuners. Log with that.
then I won't be able to view/read his log... so that does me absolutely no good at all... Blue, so you've already got a custom HPT tune????
He can do a screen shot and post it here. He's been too skeered to tweak his tune with HPTuners.
I need to throw out a BIG THANK YOU to Monte for helping with the Predator to get my fans running.
I can say that he sure fought hard to help this tranny shift a little better. The Buffalo is running REAL nice with his tune!!
So owners with older versions cannot upgrade to the latest versions?
Actually I think you can send it in and they will upgrade it for somewhere around $100.
$100 eh? Well i think i stick to hpt. Free upgrades.
It wouldn't be very hard to just take a cruise in the Blue Devil and take a quick peek at where your LTFTs are aligned. I cruise down the highway to look at where LTFTs are at and a WOT run to check for KR.....No upgrades needed..you got the HW to do that...Just sayin' WB
