Auburn Cord Dusenburg Museum, Auburn, In April 11th
« on: February 14, 2009, 11:47:11 AM »
Its April and time for more cars, cars from yesteryear, Dusenburgs and the like at the Auburn Cord/Dusenburg Museum in nearby Auburn, IN.  Group admission for this event is 8 dollars for adults and 5 dollars for students, six and under free. Find more detailed information here.  I'm sure there will be autos to amaze one and all, some of the cars have appeared in movies such as the one driven by Gene Hackman in the movie Hoosiers!  There are more than a hundred cars on show here including Auburns, Cords, Dusenburgs and others. We can meet in the museum parking lot at 11am or before!

Afterwards we will be "cruising" to the  Ryans steakhouse for dinner

sign up right here you know you wanna!

I should have the freshly powder coated wheels back on for this event.  Got them back from the powder coater yesterday.  Will post pics after the digital camera gets back from Missouri.

Thanks Mike.  Had a great time.

Hope everyone made it home safe and without getting stopped by the cops, who seemed to be out in force.  I was lucky - a guy who I had passed and who was following me got pulled over!

Third photo shows a "CLAY" model of a car, all the cars were crafted in clay, then sent to the engineers for measuring and blueprinting for production!

You would have enjoyed I'm sure, although I'm also sure you are familiar with them, the 1954 Corvette they had.

They also had a car that some folks had tried to make a business go with that was designed by one of the ACD designers that used a C3 Corvette as a base.  You could clearly see that the doors were C3 doors, as well as the interior.  Beyond that, it was quite different, and frankly, I thought they had ruined what was probably a perfectly good Corvette.

That ruined Corvette is actually in the background of one of Didit's pictures.  If you look at the last picture on page 1 of this thread, you can see in the background a 2-tone blue car.  That is what they created out of a Corvette.

the sign claims that the one Corvette is a 1953.  If that's correct... they have a lot of $$$$$$$ sitting there.
What I find funny is that the 1953 (and 1954) are terrible "sports cars".  From the straight 6 engine - to the lack of windows - to the two speed automatic "slush-box" transmission and solid rear axle.  Everything I've heard says they aren't all that exciting to drive.

But being the first (and still produced.... fingers crossed) American two seat sports car... makes the 1953 fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars in todays market.

1955 was the introduction of the V8 and a manual transmission in the Corvette; and 1956 offered dual quad carburators, and then 1957 with the fuel injected engine;   but they don't bring in the $$$ in the collector car market as the 1953.

Greg; you should take the trip to Dayton this Sunday and check out the opening Corvette Autocross event I had "accidentally" notified you about :)

The sign was a bit misleading.  Down below what was in the picture it was identified as a 1954, so it isn't as valuable as what one might think seeing that sign that was pictured.  Someone, I forget who, even mentioned that to me while I was admiring the car.

You know, my first car had a solid rear axle and a 2-speed automatic.  You may not think of it as a "sports car" but it is a rather coveted example of American muscle.  It was a 1966 GTO.  Those 2-speed powerglides are rather popular with the 1/4 mile folks.

I'll bring Sunday up with Amber.  Ordinarily I would think that it would be a non-starter, but she really does want to eat at a Quaker State......

Hey; bring some of your local AV peeps too !

keep an eye out on the weather though; if it's raining... or rained very recently - it'll be cancelled.  I'll email you some contact numbers.

If the weather is good and the event is a go, her and Yvonne will probably only stay at the event  for 30 minutes - then drive back home and ... probably... gossip about how terrible men are.

That's OK though - we'll get to stay and do manly things (and no... i DON'T MEAN POSING LIKE GLADIATORS)  2funny

Yep, that's the one.

Not too bad looking, but I wouldn't tear up a Corvette to make that.   :uglystupid2:

Wouldn't Yvonne have preferred to have done this to her '73 instead of trading it in on a C5?    2funny
