Waag Bumper guard and lights
« on: February 12, 2009, 10:03:39 PM »
Right before I left for California, I went to Alabama and purchased a Waag bumper guard and a set of three Hella Black Magic lights from Redleg.  It was a really fun trip and I finally got it all installed today and wanted to share the pictures  :cheesy1:

Here is before:

Installed:

And all lit up

I need to "aim" the lights - they got bumped around in the traveling.  I took these pictures tonight trying to see the difference in low, high, and Hella's on, but my goofy camera adjusts itself to the available light source, so I'm not seeing any difference in the pictures - but believe me, those lights are BRIGHT...George (Redleg) changed the bulbs from 50W to 100W, so the road lights up really, really well  :evil5:

Low beam only:

All on high:

All on high w/Hella's on...

Thanks - I'm really liking it too  :cheesy1:  I told the installer that I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not so he may have to take it right back off....needless to say he wouldn't wire it up till I decided I liked it.. 2funny

I think it looks great also MO,

I am a little worried about the hidden plate for you as well.

( the GTG in your neck of the woods is where I was pulled over by the State Patrol for tinted windows and licence plate covers )

Be careful.   :pullover:

Not bad. You can clearly see the difference in the light levels.

OK - you've done the audio mods, the light mods, the interior mods, so when do you start on the real performance mods (the CAI doesn't count)?
2002 LPM Z71, factory 4.10s - Magnacharger w/3" pulley, TOG's headers, 216/224-.551/.551-115 cam/pushrods/dual springs/titanium retainers, built tranny, Yank TT2600 stall converter, 24K GVW Tru-Cool tranny cooler,  Flex-A-Lites, ProCold intake, MSD wires & TR6 plugs, 20" Panther Juice 6's, 2.8" rear lowering springs & assorted hardware, J&J Enterprises stainless grille, body-color painted taillight covers. Self-tuned with HP Tuners software.

Cracked rear bumper cover from a run-in with a deer in fall 2008!

I think waag calls that a front runner, you should get the rear guard to match if you don't have it yet.  :goodstuff:

Appreciate it everyone  :cheesy1: I'll be looking for the rear guard now too - make it a set...  and yes, I'm anticipating problems with the license plate being obscured - I'll have to figure out what to do about that soon.  Just not sure where to put it.  It was suggested to take the middle light out, find another matching one and then add those two to the outside sections, leaving the center clear...not sure how that would work...we'll see.

OK - you've done the audio mods, the light mods, the interior mods, so when do you start on the real performance mods (the CAI doesn't count)?

Well, good question.  I'm still not done with the interior/audio mods, so it will probably be a while.  Plus they've cut all our overtime at work, so that pretty well took care of my mod money for a while.  If and when I get more mod money rolling in, I plan on e-fans, upgrade the alternator, new battery(ies) and then....well....don't know enough yet to plan much - but will for sure want to start beefing up the engine.  All in due time... :evil5:

you got that right Flint. It's the same style I have on mine only mine is 02 light grey. That reminds me, I need to get that painted to match the Avy.

I have the waag center gaurd (no brush guard extensions over headlamps) and the rear guard. Black but need paint after 4 winters. Easy to remove, 10 minutes maybe. I like mine black to match roof rack and mojave teflon wheels. I had them on '02 LPM before I swapped to '04 ABM.

enkieav, glen had his frontrunner, rear guards paint matched on blue '02 and looked good. With cladded they look good black, the front runner/rear guard paint matched to truck is always a nice future mod option.

About the waag bumper guards, I think the only difference between cladded and WBH is the install kit. I have all the shims from when I installed my waag front/rear if anyone needs them. Mine centered fine without any shims.

I know I haven't been on much - I'm sorry.  Nothing in particular just busy and a huge case of the winter blahs...haven't been feeling very social.  Next?  I'm looking for the rear guard like that picture you posted.  Really like that - and would help with my telephone pole problem...hehe...Then I'd love to lower the Av..just a few inches.  I've been researching that for months trying to decide what to do and just how far to go with it and have pretty much decided on a 3/3 drop.  I want to keep the "raked" look of the Av, so don't want to do the leveling like a 3/5 drop...Ahhh, can't wait for spring  :winkani:

That looks real good Peggy, I remember seeing those on Redleg's truck when I was @ MCM and I thought it was a good look then. I'm still wanting to go with a "Baja" bar with lights on mine. It will probally be my next big project.

Next?  I'm looking for the rear guard like that picture you posted.  Really like that - and would help with my telephone pole problem...hehe...

I got my waag front/rear guards from autoanything.com on close-out sales March '04, free shipping too ! They restocked same parts later and raised the price back. In fact looking for bumper guards online is how I found TOS after owning an AV near 3 years.

I marred one of my rear steps when my wife was guiding me back once, rear guard doesn't quite cover them. I've got a small dimple in the rear guard where someone got me with a trailer hitch in a parking lot. It will afford some protection at slow speed vs a pole. The two verticle rubber bumper stops will often prevent parking lot damage to both vehicles, same as front runner will.
