Wireless Backup Camera**UPDATED TO A WIRED CAMERA**
« on: October 13, 2007, 01:53:07 PM »
Hey Gang, I recently put a b-up camera on mine. It's wireless and I was having a problem with the signal whenever I'd back up in my drive. (my wi-fi was interfearing) The signal wasn't the best even out away from anything so I cut the wires and extended them to put the transmitter just about under my driver's seat on the Drivers side frame.Problem solved. Great signal now. I used some cat 3 telephone wire to extend the camera's wires. I only needed 5 wires total (3 from cam to trans. and 2 from power and ground at the taillight) so I used 3pr wire ( blue, orange and green PRS) to get the 5 single wires I needed and only had to run one piece of 3pr wire to accomodate every thing. I needed about 12 ft of this wire. It's avail at any hardware store or your local phone guy has a bunch on his truck and should be glad to give you some. Hope this helps someone. OBB.

*******UPDATE*******

So as some of you know the original backup camera in the thread above didn't work out very well. I told myself after doing my Nav unit that I would someday put a hardwired one in. I finally got the parts and did it.

Here's the pix.

This pix is all the goodies. Pac Audio adapter, Camera, Video cable and a Video splitter cable to use both inputs on the Pac unit. The Pac unit comes with instructions that sound harder than they are.

This pix shows the camera mounted before I put a cover plate over it. It's just packed in there with some all weather putty.

Pix shows both ends of the frame where the video feed wire comes out. Notice the wire loom on there to protect the wire against rubbing.

Front

Rear

Some of the connections.

Power wires, sorry about the blurry pix. I've got a 3pr service wire going directly to the battery through the frame so I used one of those pairs

This is where the wires go through the firewall.I've wired the camera to a switched power source instead of only to the reverse wire. The purple/blue wire is going to the switch for the camera power.

This pix is where the splitter is so I can use both video inputs for the Pac Unit. The unit comes on automatically when the truck is in reverse or I can hit a switch to turn the camera on even if I'm moving forward or stopped.

Back side of my switch plate

Front side of switch plate, starting top left and going clockwise
Air compressor
Video one feed-lets me watch camera while moving
Camera Power
Vss Disable
Big red button is the horn trigger.

Testing the pix while everything is still apart.

In the video here I'm going through the gear selector to show the auto-on in reverse and then using the switch to manual on by pushing the switch.

I'll try to get a better video in the daylight.
