Right now it only gets one channel.... It was a victim of the analog conversion bill passed by the cavemen back in 2009 b.c.

I tried to do the rabbit ear antenna mod on top of my Av, but for some reason that sucker won't stay in place....

You have the mandatory duct tape, now where's the mandatory baling wire?
2002 LPM Z71, factory 4.10s - Magnacharger w/3" pulley, TOG's headers, 216/224-.551/.551-115 cam/pushrods/dual springs/titanium retainers, built tranny, Yank TT2600 stall converter, 24K GVW Tru-Cool tranny cooler,  Flex-A-Lites, ProCold intake, MSD wires & TR6 plugs, 20" Panther Juice 6's, 2.8" rear lowering springs & assorted hardware, J&J Enterprises stainless grille, body-color painted taillight covers. Self-tuned with HP Tuners software.

Cracked rear bumper cover from a run-in with a deer in fall 2008!

Hey Rick... what if you angle the monitor towards the driver.   Like the "CubbyCam"  i guess it would be better to read the screen.  Just a thought

Um... It is.....  of course it is laying in the floorboard right now.... I launched at lunch and forgot it was sitting there....

Serious though.... Version 2.11987567354 is actually reset into the console and tilted/angled to help the glare issue of non-transflective coated screens in the daylight. I am waiting on my new screen to show up so I can break it down and remove the cover to embed into the fiberglass console. I am not looking forward to the mess I am going to make out of that....

I'm actually rather pleased how well my Z66, with its locking rear end, does in the winter.  Of course I put good snow tires on it since the ones I drive most of the year would be horrible in snow and ice.  Compared to the wife's 4x4 Suburban, that doesn't have a locking rear end and Bridgestone Dueler ATs, it does pretty darn good.  There's been one time this winter that I couldn't do what I wanted to do in it, and was forced to take a route around an icy hill.  The suburban might have made it.

Alright boys and girls... show me your penetrations.... :winkani:

I have a half uninstalled Painless dual battery kit installed off my battery to an isolator relay from before I installed the aftercooler and had to remove my second battery. The 12V comes directly off the battery to the isolator relay hung under the left hinge brace to the hood. This relay currently resides on a switch, but will unltimately be controlled by a relay card out of the Carputer.

I need to get a number 8 copper from that relay location to the bottom of the cupholders, where I have an add on fuse panel I am installing to run the electronics. All of my sensor wires from the wideband, the fuel pressure switch, Vac/Boost transmitter, and 2 BAR MAP follow the inside fenders down to the boot where the door wiring passes into the cab. I do not want power to follow this route.

Show me how you guys are getting large bundles into the cab from beneath the hood. I have a couple of other goodies from the engine bay I want to hook up to the I/O of the carputer, so I might ultimately have several different analog and power circuits coming to me from the engine bay.

I have a very cool idea to use the open snout on the Ram Air hood once I drop the 408 in there....

Pictures if you have them....

Hmmm,,,what's a large bundle of wires to you?
I ran about fours pieces of 12ga through a rubber gromet that comes into the truck just above that fuse box to the left of the brake pedal.

what type of circuits are in there originally?

My current large bundle just to handle my add on gauges and wideband is somewhere around 15 to 18 wires.. What I am needing might easily double that..

Heck I can't remember. I think it's a hard plastic line for something. I cautiously poked a screwdriver through to make a starter hole and just stuffed wires through that hole I made. It gets a little tight inside the cab trying to find the wire but I used the first as a pull string to get the rest through.

Now that you mention it.   Our WBH dont have a grommet on the firewall to run wires and such. (atleast i dint find one after extensive search).  I did ran my gauges stuff like yours though.

Just throwing ideas...... maybe running wires under the plate sill thru the body?

Plate sill is no good.... there is a grommet on our WBH under the drivers seat, but I hate taking wiring under the truck for this purpose. I have a set of small hole saws so I can cut one and get grommets from Allied Electronics where I have an account, but I want to see if anyone has a better option first...

BTW, I went back and added a pic of my current setup under the steering wheel behind the kick panel where I tie everything into my HPT interface... then the USB runs inside the dash to the cubby... when it is together all the wiring is hidden except the OBDII jack, which usually hangs over my parking brake....

LOL... you dont want to know the answer to that.. I am a huge fan of spares.... I have never finished a project and didn't see another option I wanted to add once it was finished... BTW, That pic has 12V power, a vacuum line, 2 analog input circuits, one analog output circuit, the Bosch cabling from the wideband interface, and the HPT Pro Interface cabling... you can just see the HPT in the upper left of that pic... Then we have the light circuit for the flashers, the backup cam, the audio and video interface to the Bose amp from the rear entertainment system.....  you get the picture....

The police in my neighborhood always stop by at 2:00am to bring me coffee when they see nothing but my feet hanging out from under the dash.....

Oh and I almost forgot... that black sensor all the way on the right? My 2 BAR MAP sensor that in most cases is installed directly into the intake manifold... I remote mounted mine so I can run both the factory 1 BAR and the 2 BAR MAP sensor in tandem into HPT to check scaling. I can switch back and forth from factory tune to 2 BAR Speed density in about 13 minutes... no need to change out the MAP sensors....

That pic shows the Painless battery relay. Look all the way in the back of the picture where the Red #6 terminates.... That is the isolator relay I want to use to tap power from to get into the cab... sits right next to the progressive controller for the meth kit....

Oh no... that was gone long time ago, but HPT will be a part of the new carputer... a very small part. All my logs will be done on the carputer, but I will tune by wireless to log into my truck from my workstation at home or work to drop HPT logs and tunes. This allows me to review the logs and tweak the tunes on a big screen and then send them out to the truck. I can see myself actually loading the tune in the truck from my inside workstation without all the running back and forth. A simple key override should accomplish this easily enough...

The main reason for the carputer is wireless internet, MP3 player, movies, GPS tracking, etc.... running HPT on it is just gravy....

Will this have a wireless portable keyboard? What operating system you'll use? ...or this is going to work like a ATM machine?

Operating system is Nlite custom stripped down WinXP I am running right now to allow a 10-20 second boot time.... Front end is StreetDeck.....

Keyboard is built in to software/touchscreen, as is the gesture control. But for the cavemen, there is full bluetooth capabilities for all peripherals, including voice activation. I will have firewire, USB, and IPOD ports built into the console so most any external device can be connected.

Remember, a keyboard will rarely be used with this system. This system is connected to the internet 24/7 when the key is energized or the remote ignition is triggered. So I can sit in my living room and remotely log into the Av, just like we are doing right now on these forums.....

BTW, the Av will have several webcams placed, so once I am up and running, you guys will be able to not only track me on the GPS server, but you will be able to log in and view my real time video, audio, and chat....

EDIT: for those interested, other popular front end software packages include CentraFuse and Road Runner. Either is highly customizable.....

The OPUS power supply I plan on using has two interesting features that help with remote networking:

Wake on interrupt feature in DC-DC together with Wake on LAN function on motherboards can be used to access the vehicle/mobile PC over wireless network without turning on the ignition switch for up to 20 min. at a time. This feature is useful for updating, uploading and down loading data/files of the car PC remotely.

Two Remote/trigger outputs of the DC-DC can be used to turn on/off slave devices such as head units, Audio Amplifiers, LCD monitors, DVD players, Two way radio units, etc.

Sort of.... I am the Senior Designer for an Industrial Controls Development firm. We design Industrial Automation controls for OEM's and Manufacturing Plants. Our control systems are typically in control of everything from Industrial Robots, Manufacturing equipment, Motor Control Centers, Optimization scanners (Laser and IR), Process Control Networks, etc.. etc....

Basically I take the hand off from the Local Electrical Utility and design and program every wire that is on a manufacturing site. Typically we take 35kV or 15kV power and break it down into 480V Motor Control Centers and then take it down to general lighting and power. We then take Mechanical designs from OEM Machinery and develop and program all PLC control of process equipment for any manufacturing line you can think of....

Link to our little engineering group..... www.trideltasystems.com  look in the lower right corner and you will see the name of our IT guy also....  :cheesy1:

All of the above means I work too much and am underpaid....

Project took a serious detour today....

Looks like I will be installing two touch screen monitors......

Just purchased a 10.4" Samsung to go in the front dash and I have a 15" touchscreen sitting in front of me that needs to find a good home in the rear of the cab... Thinking about adding it at the rear console and embedding the XBOX beneath it for the girls while on trips... I had planned on routing the XBOX to both rear headrest monitors, but I am thinking the 15" will probably have bigger impact....

So, now the game plan is to drop the AC controls and the factory Nav down into the lower cubby's and mount the 10" in the upper bezel. The screen will cover the entire two openings that the radio and a/c controls currently reside in... I might also have enough room to install the slimline DVD spindle just below the screen...

I am off to Homo Depot to find some QuikPlastic so I can start molding a bezel for the screen.... This ought to get interesting fast like....  :victory:

Got the front end up and working this weekend on the 15" touchscreen. Brought up the navigation and GPS system and activated voice control. I temporarily had the voice guidance activated but "Microsoft Heather" started arguing with me so I muted her....

The 10.4" screen should be here some time this week, so while I am waiting I selected the motherboard I am going to use so I am going about the business of fabricating a case to hold the electronics. I still need to decide on the AM/FM HD radio card and the satellite radio card (if I install this option).

Was providing real time video demonstrations this weekend over on my site and actually sent my first touchscreen reply to a PM to Loggie on Saturday.

Here is a link to the One Voice digitalmod package for streetdeck that I am using for voice activation....

You ever figure out how to get the wires through the firewall yet? I mentioned something about a grommet on the cladded and BD said he doesn't think the WBH has that.

It might be best to dedicate a new grommet in the firewall for this application.

Received my DirectLogic DL06 controller yesterday and Big Brown tells me I will have my 10.4" screen today..... :cheesy1:

Spent a couple ours last night on the bench refining my Custom Power supply for the Bench. I have isolated a 15V 1.5A fused circuit to power the PLC controller and verified my 12V, 5V, and 3.3V rails on the main power supply. I have a little SOLA 5V 6A power supply that I will be mounting on the bench tonight to provide a 5V source for analog signals from field sensors. The 12V rail is already set up to handle two dozen devices, so I should be ready to start bringing the controller up over the next couple of nights and start communicating with it from my laptop....

This phase does nothing more than monitor voltage and current levels on the Av and on the future system. It will output all of its information to a little 3" CMORE touchscreen that will be mounted in the cubbycam cubby on the dash. At this time, my plans for the 10.4" has it mounted vertical in the current dash bezel that the Nav system and A/C controls occupy.... They will move down to the lower cubby's....

Here is the controller I am using for system monitoring:

To those that actually know what that controller is capable of, it may seem like a bit of overkill, but over time I will be able to throw a lot of issues at that little bugger and be able to deal with them in ways no one else has before...

Take OBB's HID lighting issue in regards to a time delay relay for starting HIDs during the cranking cycle....

Two wires, two rungs of logic and that issue is cured....

Digital Dash boards in real time... No problem....

Custom control of A/C systems, audio systems, video systems, lighting systems, security systems, etc. ... no sweat....

Yes, this little puppy opens up a whole new ball game and yet remains totally independent from the processor running the Nav systems, Audio systems, phone, internet, and OBDII.....

I am actually starting to get a little jacked about this project.....

Pretty dang cool FB.  I'm trying to get my head wrapped around all of the capabilities that thing will bring.  Sounds quite sweet.

Ever have any thoughts of doing something like the snakeeyes backup camera guy did and selling kits for what you are inventing?  Z66 Butch looking into getting a patent for the Swing N Load and getting them produced in small production runs.  Maybe you could touch base with him and get up to speed pretty quickly on getting this sugar into the hands of the rest of us who either 1 - don't have your technical talent and experience or 2 - don't have the time.

Not to come off the wrong way, but there is not a snowballs chance in hell that I will ever do this for anything but my truck....

LOL.... If you look at the development time, programming time, installation time, fabrication time and time set aside for cold beer in between, it would be a nightmare to try and do something like this for someone else.

Even I don't know where this thing will wind up... I do this everyday for manufacturing environments on a much larger scale, but it is all within strict design parameters to meet process constraints of a production process...

This thing sort of goes where it wants... I get up everyday thinking of another cool feature I can build into this system. I am thinking this will be one of those projects that just when you think you are done, you realize... you are not done....

I am documenting this thing pretty heavy over on my site and if anyone else ever wants to attempt something like this ON THEIR TIME AND DIME, I will most certainly help in anyway I can.

This thing just fullfills my need to build things... I would never want to turn it into a job....

Well, it's Friday and I have the itch. Worked straight through for the last couple of weeks with no time off, so I am ready to tear something apart....  :cheesy1:

This weekend I get to see how deep I can go into my dash. Last time was when I installed the Nav system, DVD screens, backup cams and integrated it all into my Bose Amp. This time, I might be in there for a few days.

I plan on installing the fuse and relay blocks, the Direct Logic PLC, and build out the majority of the power circuits. The 10.4" screen is sitting on my dining room table patiently awaiting me to tear it down also so I can use the screen bezel to merge into the dash bezel....

Should make for a fun weekend.... They say it is going to rain so that may put a stop to it, but knowing me, I will just use that as an opportunity to keep my bourbon wet...  :winkani:

I am going in. I will take pics of the destruction so I can compare it to this one that I took the last time.....

Unfortunately, you probably won't see the finished product on the threads here. Some people just don't play well with others.
