Question for Missouri folks
« on: February 20, 2009, 01:48:51 PM »
Hi everyone,
There are a lot of members in MO, so I thought I'd get some of your expert feedback...

Here's the scoop: I was notified a couple days ago that I may be asked to transfer from MPLS to our plant in NKC (CertainTeed Insulation). I lived i nthe area 20 years ago (O.P.), and I have very fond memories of the area and people, but here's where your knowledge comes into play...As I recall, everyone said it was cheaper to live on the MO side, as there are fewer taxes, better housing prices, etc.
Any truth to that?
If I do move back down there, I have been looking to stay on the east side of KC. Raytown & Indep. are the two most likely areas so far.

Any and all comments/suggestions are welcome

Overall everything you mentioned is cheaper in MO vs. KS.  I grew up and lived 23 years in Indep.  I moved to Shawnee and lived there for 2 years and hated it due to several reasons (including higher taxes, cost of living, housing etc).  I then moved to Lee's Summit and have lived there over 13 years and love it.  Indep. and Raytown are okay but have gone down hill over the past 10 years and if you have a family attending public schools I highly suggest LS, Blue Springs, Raymore or Liberty areas.  School taxes will be higher in these areas vs. Raytown/Indep. but well worth it in my opinion.

Oh and if you do move, make sure you look us folks up in K.C. on the next GTG!

Thanks Darren! I figured it hadn't changed much since I was there last.
I should have mentioned, it'll just be my wife and me, as my son will stay up here with his mom for high school. My wife's office (if she were to transfer with her company) is only 2 miles from our plant, so we are looking for a relatively easy commute. We now live outside the city, and she commutes 30 miles, mine is almost 50. I'll check those areas out.

Oh yeah, I'll need to be realtively close to MCI as I'll be heading back up here quite often.

I'll definitely get involved in the GTG's down there. That's one of the draws. It's dead up here  banghead1
