O2 sensor 1 bank 2 DIC code
« on: December 24, 2008, 07:18:00 PM »
Hey, can anyone give me some advice on things to check out when an O2 sensor goes south??

I was running a Volant CAI and the U7193.  Checked LTFTs around October and they were around 0 to -2.

Since we had a cold snap could my LTFTs gone rich on me which caused this failure??  Could this be something I caused with my modding?

Also had a bank2 lean code....

Took it to the stealership since the CostGaurd warranty was picking up the tab.  They said it was a failed O2 sensor as I had stated but, I'm wondering if it could be a symptom of something else.

Also, they tried to sell me a throttle body and injector cleaning service which I declined and they wanted to update the computer which I also declined.

Anyways......

BTW, thank you for allowing me access to this great resource site again!  I apologize for the past.

The CAI has nothing to do with it.    What setting are you using with you predator?   You said is custom tuned?

If you're getting a lean code and have an aftermarket intake the first thing I would is check all vaccum connections and the intake tubing after the MAF.  There's more air getting in the engine than the MAF is seeing.  Vaccum leaks usually show up as a +16.4 LTFT.  If you're just a few numbers off, it's probably a setting you made in the tuner.

You didnt see the leak and neither the stealer.  It has to be in your settings.

I had the same problem.  The darn tube popped off the intake.

...btw,welcome back.

It's a 93 octane performance custom tune.  The only reason it is custom is that the guys at Diablo changed some tranny settings due to the HORRIBLE clunking I have in this tranny. (I've been waiting for it to go on and fail so I can get a better one as a mod.  :evil5: )

We had some cold weather in Cincy.  It was about 3 degrees on the way home from work one night and it started stumbling and rumbling at a light and almost stalled out.  NO DIC light though....just ran REAL rough at idle.

Next morning I let it warm up for about 15 minutes and when I got into it, it was idling smoothly at 500rpm.  As soon as I put it in drive, it fell flat on it's face and stumbled, rumbled, and immediately threw codes.  bank2 sensor1 low voltage failure and bank2 lean.

I put the GM calibration back into it and it didn't get any better.  I did notice that after it ran awhile it would try to smooth out.  Guess the computer was trying to compensate.

I haven't noticed any coolant leakage or loss, nor have I noticed any oil burning or lost.

The dealer took his sweet old time doing the repair so, I haven't gotten it back yet.  I suppose it could just be a bad sensor.....I always complained my bank ltfts were never very even and kybob mentioned awhile back that it could be caused by a failing sensor.

I just know that a failing sensor could be a symptom of something else so it gets my OCD a thumping around in my head!

I removed the Volant before taking it in for service for fear of the stealer blaming it on that.  All connections looked tight.  Never did check vacuum lines though....  The generals intake didn't work as a fix either.

I should have tried to check LTFTs but it ran so rough I was afraid to run it long at the cruising speeds needed to log....I was also short on time.  This was why I went back to the factory settings to see if it went away which it didn't.

The dealer claims a new sensor fixed it but......let's just say I have trust issues.  :dunno:

I was thinking maybe an exhast leak around the manifold could do weird stuff too.

It should be good then if the dealer fixed it   Very easy to replace,....of course, theyre going to take their sweet time and charge you labor time. :blink1:

I know, I feel like a bit of a wuss not to do it myself, but the CostGaurd warranty picked up the cost so luckily I don't think I owe them anything.  Guess I'll find out....

They sure did try to push the injector/throttle body cleaning and the update for the ECM.  They wanted $171 for that service which I promptly declined.... I felt like they were pushing snake oil on me.  :anono1:

I thought to myself....why let them change some ECM firmware so they may be able to monitor what I'm doing or mess up my tuning ability.  I'm a little paranoid about them screwing with the ECM.....LOL they prob'ly did what they wanted anyway...

I just wonder why things go bad is all.   It's that whole "root cause" thing that my customers demand from my repairs I do at work....

Like I said....LTFTs seemed dialed in last time I checked in Oct.   Hope I didn't do something dumb to screw things up.

Maybe it's a good excuse to bribe some mod money for high flow cats and a nice exhaust system.   :evil5:

I read in another thread that the bank 2 readings on the predator doesn't come into play. I forget why that is and I'd have to go searching for that answer. Gimmee a few days and I'll look for it.

WHERE IT REALLY IS ABOUT THE FRIENDS AND AVY'S, AND NOT THE ALMIGHTY ADVERTISING DOLLAR!

One time I think I recall the Diablo guys told me to disregard the LTFTs readings on bank2 since there is no adjustment for each bank.  I think I was told this when I noticed the LTFTs were not running equal to each other......same time frame KYbob mentioned a possible precat sensor issue... banghead1

My LTFTs were always running around 0 on bank1 and -2.34 on bank2.  No ping no knock EVER recorded...

I still think this is my excuse to gut the cats or buy high flow cats and a new exhuast system.   :evil5:  I bet KYBob, Flabuoy, or BD could tell me how to convert all these O2s and MAF to a paperweight!   :evil5:

So far I've learned to do the following:

Check for vacuum leaks
Check for exhaust leaks
Check for plugged CATS
Check for failing plugs.

Woner if the stealership did all this for me?   2funny      :uglystupid2:
