Footwell Entry Lights - HOW TO
« on: October 09, 2008, 07:33:01 PM »
Here's my "How To" contribution on adding the Footwell Entry Lights for anyone that does not have them. They are the lights that shine down on the floorboards with the courtesy lights that come on when it is dark enough to trigger them through the auto on light sensor on the dash.
Some of the pix are taken at an angle just to show where things are

Here's the goods:

Plugs, Lights, and some wire and a few connectors

Close up of the part numbers I used

Pix of the plug

Location of the brackets that are on your truck under the lower dash.

Passenger Side

Driver's Side

With the plugs which take about an 1/8" turn to install. The Passenger side was a tight fit but the drivers side I was able to come in from the top with the lower panel removed

Passenger

Driver's Side (camera is tilted and pix is taken beside the steering column)

With a bulb

I pulled the glovebox down the whole way to acces my wire route.

Splice the Black wires from both plugs (you will have to extend the wires from the passenger side) together and ground them. I used a spot shown in the pix.

Splice the Brown wires from the plugs (again, extend the Passenger side with red wire) together and then splice into the grey wire shown in the harness. This wire is only live when the courtesy lights are active.

Grey wire in harness with a wire tie on it to show where

I used a T-Tap to connect the wires.

I covered the dash sensor for the pix and then took one more about 15 minutes later.

I have a question on this one. Do the lights come on when just you open the doors?
This is a mod I would love to do but have it tied into the dash lights.

It ties in with the dome lights.

Hmmmm......Ok. when I am ready for this mod I will definitely need to know where to tap into the dash wiring. I think it would be cool to be on at night. I drove a Malibu while the tranny was getting rebuild and they had "Mood lighting" in it.
