Show Us Your Handguns
« on: August 27, 2008, 02:56:24 PM »
I just picked up my new handgun yesterday. It is a Hi Point 9mm. I paid $220 for the gun, hard case, extra mag and 2 boxes of Winchester ammo. Pretty nice gun. Not bad at all for the money. The gun itself with the case was $148.

Fired my first rounds through it today. These were at 25 yds.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide

Here's a couple of mine.  I have quite a few.

A glock 27  40cal

A Kel Tech P32

A comparison of size of the P32 and a S&W 629 44mag

2011 Silverado, Ext Cab Z-71 5.3, 6L80, Airaid CAI, Magnaflow cat-back, and a little tuning by me and HPT.

Gone but not forgotten, 2002 Victory red. The quickest lifted 4x4 AV in the US in it's day.

This was a Christmas gift from my dad.

I guess several years back when the NYSP changed weapons, they put up the old ones for sale to dealers. My uncle ordered quite a few of them for my dad and I think he said he got them for around $125 a piece. It's a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum.

I'm taking the family out target shooting tomorrow so they can learn to use it as well.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide

i think all of the XD's come as a kit. the drawback is the holster. the plastic holsters are kinda flimsy and they're hard on the gun finish.

If you're buying 9 mm @ $12.99 each you'd better buy all you can. Cheapest I can find it down here is $13.99.

I know I posted pix before in a thread like this but maybe it was on TOS. I'll add a couple more. The H&R is an oldie that was my grandmother's; she owned a Hotel and kept it for self defense. It was originally bought used and is a little loose. It still has the original box.

The Ruger Mark II is a lot of fun to shoot and is very accurate. It's not as much fun to shoot as the 9 mm but it's a whole lot cheaper.

I absolutely LOVE the Ultrastar. It shoots extremely well and is not much bigger than a .380.

The $13.99 here is Walmart and it's never in stock. I've been watching to buy up a 1000 rounds sometime when I can find them for $11.99/box. I've been watching for about a year now with no luck.

I had my mind set for a .380 for Trish and a .45 for me.   But i got sold on the 2 .9mm's.

I think next time, i'll just go ahead and pick up a 1911.  I love them but they hurt my wrist.

If the .45 hurts your wrist you ought to try one of these sometime. I owned one in .44 mag for about 4 years and ran a minimum of 100 rounds a week through it and got pretty good with it (like an 8 round clip in a 6" circle rapid fire at 25 yards). Needless to say, I had a progressive reloader. I originally bought it with the intent to use it for deer hunting instead of a rifle but it was just too much of a handicap - 50 yards was about it. It wouldn't function properly unless you were shooting maximum loads so it took a while to build up a resistance to the recoil.

Sweet guns BD. I'll be buying a Kel-Tech P11 9mm before long for my CCW weapon.

The 9mm ammo is getting easier to find and not very expensive at all. It is the .380 ammo that is extremely hard to find. Me and my dad relaoded a butt load of 9mm and .357 Magnum ammo at Christmas. Also reloaded some .38 Special ammo, I can shoot that in the .357 as well.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide

Personal opinion - if you are talking about casting lead bullets, it's not worth it. I don't think you want to shoot lead bullets in a 9 mm. If you are talking about reloading shells, it was much cheaper than purchasing loads when I was reloading .44 mags.

You can buy a cheap progressive press, like a Dillon Square Deal 2, and reload 1000 rounds in an afternoon. You do have to check overall case lengths to make sure the brass doesn't get too long, adjust the bullet seating crimp, make sure overall loaded round length is not too long, etc. To gain the most financial benefit you also have to pick up your spent brass after shooting; you can typically reload brass about 5 times.

My dad has been doing his own reloading for yrs. We reloaded several hundred rounds in just a couple of hours when I went home at Christmas. I don't think he is has bought a store bought round in probably 30 yrs.

Don't laugh; it works. My step-father used to kill them with a .22 Magnum. And no, I'm NOT kidding.

How cheap is it to make your own bullets?   Any?  Not worth it?

i know peeps that do but ,the draw back is if you have a pistol with a lifetime warranty and one of your loads damages the pistol, the warranty will be voided. i'm not sure about all gun manufactures but, i know sig will not cover it. a friend had a sig that a round got stuck in the barrel . he had to send it to sig for repair. first question was, did he use  a factory load ? he replied yes. sig investigated it out and found out that he used his own load and they voided his warranty. so yah have to research  first.

Reloading will not save you any $.  While it is less expensive per shot, you will find yourself shooting more which brings the end total to the same or maybe even more compared to factory ammo.  I have a progressive Dillon 650 for high volume loading, a RCBS Rockchucker for most rifle ammo, and my arbor press for my benchrest gun.  Also a MEC 9000G for shotgun reloading when I was shooting competitively (~30k shots per year).  Buying reloading components in bulk is the way to go.

Here are a couple of mine:

Ruger 22/45 full race gun fr synthetic plate and bowling pin matches.  Volquartsen hammer, trigger, and sear honed to give a nice 2# trigger pull.  Yes, it does have a compensator on the muzzle.  It does make a difference when tenths of a second separate winner from 1st place looser (2nd place).

This is a Thompson Center Encore  wearing a 16" .50 caliber black powder barrel.  This is one beast to shoot with full power loads.  It also has a 2x Leupold handgun scope.

I too have the XD compact 9mm.  Nice shooting weapon.  I just purchased this Bersa Thunder Plus .380 for the wife but I think its going to end up in my holster, its a fun little shooter.

Nice. A few of the guys I work with carry the Bersa as well. They like it. It's just a little too small for my hand.

I got to shoot my XD a couple of weeks ago, very impressed with the accuracy of it.

I agree the Bersa is a bit small.  That is why I got the Thunder plus.  It comes with the 15+1 magazine which makes the grip a little fatter.

The XD is a great pistol.  I've had it since the XD line came out, so around 3-4 years I think.  It is very accurate and I don't think I will ever get rid of it.

I read somewhere on the forum that there is a nice hidden compartment somewhere in the Av's that is great for storing a pistol.  I can't seem to find it though.  Do you happen to know where it is?

Mornin, all! I just saw this thread and had to chime in. Here's the first addition to my new collection. I plan on getting my carry license and this will be my carry beast. I've gotten opinions from friends and they think that it's too big and heavy to carry, but I'm going to try it anyway. Opinions on this??

looks like a smithy m&p 45c??? you carry whatever feels good for you. i carry my sig p229, it's heavy but it feels great. with the right holster, you won't notice the weight IMO. nice pistol.

I did fail to tell what gun it is, didn't I? Yeah, it's an M&Pc, but it's the 9mm model. How do you carry your Sig? On your belt? I plan on an open top belt holster. I like the tuck holsters that go inside your beltline, but it make your weapon inaccessible if you have a problem seated in your car. Thanks! It felt the best in my hand. I also was looking at a glock and springfield. Both 9mm also. Mine also was the smoothest slide action and magazine release...

Can you post a model number? I've been doing my research, but the choices seem to be limited for my gun.

I bought a Blackhawk Serpa for my XD Sub Compact and don't like it at all. Very bulky and the paddle is very difficult to get off of the belt easily. I just use the Springfield holster that came with my gun.

Bullbar, Sailpanel LED'S, Elec Tgate & Sbag Locks, Custom Decals, Ventvisors, Lund Bug Guard, Amber's, All 4 Hi FTDRL, Mag Lite/Fire Ext Mod, Headrest Monitors, bedslide

Well, it looks like the only decent options are at the shop where I bought my pistol. Online doesn't have much of a selection for lefty's. That's alright. I was just doing my homework for now. It's going to be a couple of months before I get my license, so I've got plenty of time for further research. Thanks for the input, guys!

Got a new holster for my everyday carry piece. Sorry for the online pic, don't have any of the gun on the computer at the moment.

What did you get? I have been using a tuckable "split decision" IWB High Noon holster most of the time.

The other I like was made by Andrewsky of the Waltherforum.com. It is awesome to say the least.

If you think you need to try Bladetech Kydex, or Galco, resist the urge. If the need is great , I'll sell  you mine :)

Just an update...

I've done more homework and have finally found a few options. I went with a nylon belt holster from double triple trading. It's ambidextrous with a belt clip and loops. I left the clip set for a right hander and am using it as an inside the pant holster. Works great!

Also, I picked up a Walther P22 last week. Very light and built well, but finicky. I still have to dial in what ammo she likes and stay away from the stuff she doesn't. I got major stove piping with Federal, so I won't be shooting that anymore...

I need opinions now. I'm looking at a Walther PK380 as my next purchase. Anyone have experience with the PK? It's extremely light and the actions are really smooth, but I haven't shot one. Thoughts??

I have a Walther P22 and P380. Both are good shooters.

I bought two pocket size Kahr P380 earlier this year.

IMO...the Kahr is a great shooter with better balance when the clip is full, but the additional cost may shock you.

Well, I've made a couple purchases recently. I picked up the PK380 as planned. Great gun! Very light, no feed or ejection problems, and very easy to control. I actually sold my m&p because of the Walther. I had no reason to keep it...

I also picked up a Sig P238 Equinox. A little expensive, but well worth the money! I love everything about my Sig! All actions are smooth, no more kick than bigger 380's, and extremely light. Not to mention, she sure is pretty! She's a little big compared to other mouse guns, but I think the way it shoots makes the size something you can easily overlook....

We picked up a new one as well. Got Gina teh S&W Bodyguard 380. Pretty nice little gun with built in laser. The trigger is has q longer pull than my Springfield XDS but a very true shooting gun. She likes it and is getting pretty good with it.

Donnie, HI Points are not reliable in the time of need!!! I was a prior owner.  They are low power and high maintenance!!

Exactly, I got rid of mine several months back and picked up a Springfield XD Subcompact 9mm. Although the Hi Point is a cheap enough gun to have around.

After taking 2nd place at cyclefest I walked next door where they were having the gun show and picked me up a little .22 phoenix arms pistol. Fits in the pocket of my riding jacket perfectly! A little treat to myself for bringing home a trophy. ;D

Nice. I just picked up a Colt 6920 MAGPUL from Buds Gun shop. Shoots like a dream. Very impressed with it.

Go for  the "lifetime" permit,if your state has it. It'll save save you a lot in the long run. My kit consists of an S&W 41 (.22), model 52 (.38) and a Colt Gold Cup (.45).
