If you guys are very patient try using etching goo.  Posted about it on TOS but can't remember what it's really called.  It's basically a whitish sludge you put on the glass after you cut out your template.  Having the light shine up shouldn't be hard either since all you have to do is put a light in from the bottom or top part of your glass.
