Bumper Cupholder Test
« on: July 22, 2008, 05:32:43 PM »
New contest.
Must have an empty dated beverage can ( preferably not an alcohol one as the Law may not like it, Right MoAv?) put in a BUMPER cupholder and see how long it can stay there. Sorry folks, this only works on cladded  :cheesy1:
I put mine in on July 4th and have about 400 miles on it so far. I did take it out to go through a car wash and for doing my Refinish Restorer.
I've already caught 3 people wanting to throw it away for me and had to tell them to leave it alone.
If yours get taken or lost, date a new can and start over.

**LETS ADD THIS ALSO** If you're at a GTG with it, you have to get a pix of you and someone else with the can

YOU MUST POST PIX !!!!!!!

Oh, you're sooooo on!!  I'll find an appropriate (ahem...) can and get started...should add up the miles quick going to Natl's - if I ever get my Av back...

Watcha win?  Gotta have a good prize for this one OBB (and not a FULL can of soda...)

So are low friends.... :ass1000:  I'll have to hire security for my Av when I'm there

Now I have to find a soda can - we don't drink soda's in cans around here. Or beer.  V8 maybe?  I know - I'll check the freeway on the way down.  IF I get my Av back, and if we EVER get to leave... banghead1

I've got pics, I just can't download them yet - I barely have any signal for internet and there's no way I can download them - I bet it would take an hour or more per pic!!  But I have a pic with the Monster can BEFORE it disappeared...   Guess I need another one with the new Amp can.  (and what does a can of Amp have to do with Dale Jr?  :dunno: )

Dr. Didit, Av Wolf  and others have been working on my Av-I now have more glow  :cheesy1:  and the tailgate torsion bar!!  I love that thing

OK, here's the pix I needed to post. RonJ, Myself and MS03, I had MS03 sign the can

Who's next to post a pix in here?

Hmmm, I don't know guys - I see some Av's, (nice BTW), and three guys with a can - but nothing in the bumper cup holder.... :dunno:  Does that count?

 :joke:

My cans disappeared right after I arrived at Nationals, and didn't get returned until right before I left, so no pics in Pigeon Forge.  They rode with me to Nashville yesterday - but not a GTG, so no pics again....but over 1500 miles so far and counting   :winkani:

Sorry I missed this post :verymad:

We went to Chicago area a few weeks ago and drove all over the place.
I could have logged a bunch of miles.

I guess I'll start today, but since we don't drive the Av unless we are on trips, I'm not sure how many miles I'll log.

Kinda interesting the looks you get and the # of people that are willing to throw that "can" away for ya even though they'll walk past a wrapper laying on the ground to do it.

I think MoAv put little pebbles in hers to keep it there..LOL  :cheesy1: :joke:

That's sooo true - I've had plenty of people offer to throw them away for me.  "Do you know you have empty cans in your holders?"   And the looks on their faces when I explain what's going on...priceless!!  Kind of "You're doing WHAT?"      I love it  :cheesy1:

I think MoAv put little pebbles in hers to keep it there..LOL  :cheesy1: :joke:

Well, I do know I've lost my marbles.... :winkani:   Actually, I haven't put anything in them - probably some rain has got in there, or water from the car wash.  But I empty them when I think about it.

hmmmm, no train horn...what can I hook mine up to?

I've got some still in the garage I think. Once I wonder out there I'll let you know.  There is that funny feeling though when you're about to take a 3" hole saw to your truck.  :blink1:

Oh my - when you hear that drill start up, it kind of makes you panic..."do I REALLY want to do this??"  But they are great to have.  I've got a couple extra of the shallow ones (for the tailgate) if anyone needs them.  I might put mine in at McNair park.

Total bummer.

I hooked up my back-up camera pretty quickly.
Still haven't permanently mounted the screen.
I think I'd recommend a wired type though as the signal isn't the best.

Watching the dumpster for clearance and never even saw the post by it  banghead1  Big crunch, lots of cussing and a few tears... Sigh.  Luckily it's only the bumper and step area - tailgate is fine other than I can't open it right now because of how the cladding is bent underneath.  Live and learn I guess...

I talked to my stereo guy today, and he said that Alpine just came out with a back-up camera made for my head unit, so he's ordering it for me.  I should have done this a loooooong time ago...

I missed this thread, my PC is busted so I haven't checked in as often and I haven't done the cup holder mod because I doubted I would use them.

YOU IDIOTS !  :uglystupid2:
I'm going to put can holders in my rear bumper just so I can play this game
But you only drive about 4,000 miles a year, It'd take you until retirement just to catch MoAv.   2funny

Only need one to count. I started my new one the other day and dated it and put the mileage on the bottom.

Uh, oh....lol...Tell you what OBB - how about if we start over?  Truly I don't think my can should count cuz since I crunched it it pretty much CAN'T fly out...and I did lose the other can already.  Whatcha think?  New cans?  Of course GTG miles will probably be more scarce now...

Doesn't matter. Part of it was to see how long it would last, I'll have to check the mileage on the truck to see how long that one was in there.

Yeah - my bad - lost that darn can in the wind the other night gettin' pizza!   Maybe I should have cooked instead! (right!)  I don't know if it would have stayed there anyway since the wind was so bad anyways - if the can is the worse thing that happened to us - I'll take it!  At least we have power!

Guess we are starting over again!   :needhug:

we were laughing about it all being crunched up when she got there and later it was gone. I think it got moved during the modding.

Yes, it got moved during the modding, but I put it back when we were done and it disappeared again.  Sigh.  This time it wasn't returned, so I don't have my can anymore.  I'm hoping someone put it somewhere in my stuff in the back of the Av & I'll find it when I get home.  Sooooo, no pics from this GTG with my can.

I started another one this morning just in case I don't find the other one - let's see how long it lasts... buck2

Thanks Rusty - but we're already past Dayton, we're somewhere in Kentucky right now.  I'll have to get some gorilla glue for this can so it stays put!!

I think MoAv should velcro the can so it's slightly more difficult to remove and then snot on it,...

Just put some cardboard between the cupholder and the can to wedge it in place.

That's cheating.  Part of the fun though is setting new benchmarks for anyone wanting to track mileage on their can. I double checked the odometer and figure 3400 miles is real close....On to the next can.

Hey OBB, you could always back into a pole to crush the can to make sure it stays put like somebody else we know.

Hey -maybe we can start a new fad...the "Crunched Corner" Av Club....

 :joke:

Naw, really I wouldn't wish anyone damage to their truck.  Buying another can of Monster is a WHOOOOOOOLE lot cheaper than a new rear corner/bumper on the Av...

Ok, I"ve been slacking on this. The latest can was put in on 12/21/08 at 100,000 miles. It already has 2k miles on it and been to two GTGs. Didit signed this can at the Richmond GTG and GoldBowtie signed it today.

Well I finally lost my crunched/stolen/returned/hidden/found can...well, not really lost.  When I parked the Av at the parking garage in St. Louis while I went to California, someone took it and I guess threw it away.  Probably thought it was trash, not realizing the emotional attachment I had to that can...hehe...we'd been through a lot of miles...

So I'm starting a new can.  Will have to get it signed and dated at my next GTG....here we go again Mike...

I'll see about doing a "how to" thread for it a little later. All I used was a 3" hole saw, some cupholders from a marine store and a foam can "huggie" cut in half and pushed up over the bottom of the cupholder for mine. Others have taken a very thin bead of silicone to hold the cupholders in. If you cut the hole tight enough the cupholders barely move without anything holding it.

OBB fixed a can for me at Huggies, and someone took it again.....people are sooooo worried around here about that goofy can in my bumper.  Guess I need to make a sign "Leave this can alone..."

Sigh.  Guess I need another GTG to start another can....

JB Weld will do it.  :cheesy1:

I locked mine in the saddlebag while we were parked. Saw a few people scrounging and didn't want it taken.

The guy got mad at us and stomped off after asking 3 or 4 times, he even told us some kind of story that his brother had got pulled over and was in Kalamazoo jail or something and he needed to call someone to get a ride to go get his car.     2funny

btw - I don't recall seeing a payphone anywhere in Pontiac and I know they don't take pennies, 67 cents  :knuppel2:

Noticed mine went missing on Friday while at PT.. Had over 14,500 on the darn thing..  So many people talked about taking it on me, ut I think it had to do with me parking near the sidewalk..   :idiot2: :idiot2:

At least they left the Quater in the other one that Crystal put in there back in June..

Well time to start another...   :needhug: :needhug:

Dang OBB! I think I got about 2,000 miles on my Can since WoodWard!  (I dont drive much unless its to a GTG farther away)

The other day I went out to my truck at work and my Cans were gone.... I said well that sucks! Later that day I walked in the back yard of the show and seen them laying on the ground....One of the guys at work thinks its stupid driving around with cans in my bumper and thro the cans i n the yard. I told him, I get more laughs and compliments on my cans in my bumper and not to touch them again!  He hasnt touched them since!

During DreamCruise, I lock it in the saddle bag. Too many people scrounging for cans and spare change. I'd be  :verymad: if someone took my trophy just to get a dime out of it.

DAMN IT! My can disappeared today. 14,000 miles on that one and almost 11 months.  :verymad:  :verymad:

Good thing there's a GTG this weekend to start a new one.

That last one started when trAV signed it last July up at Lake Erie.

NEVER MIND. SOME JOKER AT WORK MOVED IT TO THE OTHER SIDE AND I DIDN'T SEE IT.  :uglystupid2:

While at the Western Pa GTG I started the can challenge. I had everybody sign it and put the miles and date on it,I also noted that it was our first GTG ,hoping for many more, and put it in the holder and left for home. Well  when we got home and was done unloading I looked for the can...it was GONE !! :wtf: Only thing I can figure was that the shallower cup holders don't work to well when doing the cup holder test...

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

Today marks 1 year that can has lasted in my bumper  :dans2:
trAV signed it last year at the Lake Erie Island GTG and Hugz signed it yesterday at the lunch GTG
I may have to retire this one.

Must have been a slow year. Only 15,000 miles on the avy this past year. buck2

It appears, with as many GTGs as you go to, that you only drive the Av to GTGs.

I only put about 8K miles on mine last year, every one of them with a smile on my face. I'm ashamed to say it hasn't been cleaned up since October last year. I'm typically going to the farm with it so it just gets filthy as soon as it goes back up there. I'll be cleaning it up shortly as I've just about got my hood louvers ready to install. Maybe next weekend.

Up until April of this year, My commute to work was only 1/2 mile. Kinda hard to put miles on it that way. Now that it's a 20 mile drive I take the bike a lot. I've racked up almost 4500 miles on the bike since April.

Well, I've only put 600 miles on this since the lunch GTG with A_A last month. Gotta love nice weather for the bike.

Anyway. odometer reads 127,898. Here it is with Al last night at dinner.

I thought about snagging it just before you split that day :evil5:
First you'll lose your mind
then any free cash laying around
Awesome mods will bloat your credit limits
Acting like a crack addict, refinancing your home, farm out the kids......
You'll cry yourself to sleep, stuff like, must get new rims.
Lift it skyward or drop it like it's hott.
Important questions like, polished or chrome, will shadow you day and NIGHT.

Here's the 3" x 3" ones on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Seasense-Recessed-Cup-Holder-3-X3-Black-boat-50091007-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3f02988695QQitemZ270626490005QQptZBoatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear#ht_2316wt_720

Use those for the bumper and get some 3" across by 2 5/8 deep for the tailgate. I bet that seller has both.

Get them ordered and follow me next Fri when I blow through Indy on the way to Bratfest and we'll get them put in.

I was wrong on the depth. I just went out and measured the inside depth on mine. They're 2 1/4 on the inside so I think the overall is 2 3/8. I'm looking on ebay now for the seller I used.

This is the seller I got my TG ones from. These are 2 1/4 inches deep and should work for the TG

Same inside measurements as mine

Well, it sure was windy around Indy today. We took a rest stop on the east side of Indy and my can was still there. We stopped to eat in Terre Haute and it's gone. Almost 17,000 and a little over 13 months.
Guess we start a new one at Bratfest

The one that's in my now has been there since our trip to Oklahoma Memorial day weekend. I put it in there when we were on base at Ft. Sill. It made the trip back home and then to Ft. Gordon and back. I didn't mark any mileage on this can. After losing the last one that lasted so long I got disgruntled. Like losing a friend. 2funny

I hear ya... I'm gonna be very disappointed whenever this one disappears!  I didn't mark any mileage either.  I'm out all day, but everwhere I go is really close so I don't put much mileage on.  I figure in my case time will be more impressive than mileage  :coolsmiley:

So my can only lasted a couple days  ... flew out going 75 on the interstate today.  Gonna start another today.  I'll have to fill it up about halfway with water so it stays put...

How deep are the cupholders you put in there? Mine are 3" deep and I normally don't lose a can unless it's very windy out.

Same 3" deep.  It made it all the way to my destination about an hour away, but didn't make the whole ride back.  I was pretty surprised because I had seen others post it never flew out... oh well, time to start over!
