Topic: vortech v-2 trim loud whine from blower

I installed the v-2 trim last august. It ran just fine until last night.

I start the truck and a loud whine is heard off the blower at idle and a tad louder when stepping on the gas.

I removed the inlets and no oil leaks where found. I checked the pulleys and belt and they seem fine.

I dont know what else to do. Any ideas?

You need to take that thing off IMMEDIATELY!!!  .................I'll give ya $50 for it.

Can you turn it by hand with the belt off. See if you can hear the noise while turning it and see if it is wobbling

I can turn it just fine and it doesnt wobble.     I can't turn it as fast as the revs to hear it.   I thought i had a leak in the inlets but nope. Everything is secure.

It whined before but last night just got alot louder.     I dont think is supposed to be like that after the break-in period.     ...and yet ive never heard anybody elses blower to know the difference.

Are ya sure it's the blower, maybe the ALT or belt tensioner. Ya may want to check everything on the belt including the water pump

yes.  Is loud coming off the blower.

Well...... i removed the Oil Feel line and pointed it to a water bottle.  Removed the fuel pump relay and cranked it.

I have oil pressure ok i guess. I filled the bottle after the crank.

I've never seen one of those superchargers up close and off the vehicle to take a look at, but it looks very similar to a turbo.
When a turbo whines, it's a sign that the impeller shaft or bearings need to be replaced.
The sound on a turbo is the impeller it contacting the side wall.
The last turbo I had with bad bearings started sounding like a fire truck siren as I'd rev the engine

To check a turbo, you pull off the intake pipe and try to wiggle the impeller.
Can you do that with the Vortech?
You can expect some play, but not excessive.
You may need to disconnect the belt if it is direct drive.
Make sure your belt isn't too tight either.Scratch that....serpentine belt

Thanx Rich for the reply.  I took the day off to work on it and call Vortech Co.
The impellers seem ok with no rubbing or grinding.

I bypassed the blower with the factory belt and it sounds beautiful like it should be. That said, now I know the blower has trouble.  Vortech opens at 8am pacific time.  :::sigh:::
