Show me your exhaust tips!
« on: May 28, 2008, 03:58:33 PM »
I've started checking around for new exhaust.  I like the Flowmaster S40 (exit on each side) and the way I want the tips to look is to come from under the body and drop down, kinda like the 69 Camaro.  I want the tips to exit down under the step (Cladded) at a 45 deg angle.  I'm not sure if the FM S40 exits like that but that's what I'm looking for.  I like the looks of both the rolled and the cut tips but still can't decide.  Summit has a price of $530, not sure if that is a good price or not??

Thanks for the help, FH

I had FM 70 and got rid of it 6 months later.  Too soft for my taste.  I went for the fm40 and sold the fm70 to a friend of mine.

Now i want to go even deeper and louder but i dont know what i want yet.

I dont know if the 50 is louder than the 40.

I talked with a lady that had this done on Her nekkid avy and she ended up regretting it because she didn't like the looks of it. Every one has their own idea of what they like. She had the bowtie tips on it and I honestly didn't care for them that much. I don't know if you have a local shop that can run it that way and still reuse the pipes if you don't like them. Whichever way you go with it....REMEMBER TO POST PIX   :cheesy1:

I have the FM 50 SUV on mine.  LOVE IT!!!  It has a nice deep growl but you don't get alot of noise in the cab.  You can hear it, but not so loud you can't carry on a normal conversation.  But romp on the accelerator   :evil5:  saaaaaweeeet   I'll go get a vid of it so you can hear it.

Here's my SS tip:

What I like best is that it's not "LOUD" like the trucks you can hear 5 blocks away.  It has a low, kind of mean sound.  And when you rev it, you don't get all the "popping" like some of the really loud mufflers have.  Just smoooooth sound

I don't know if there is just a FM 50, but mine is called the FM 50 SUV.  If you go to Flowmaster's website, they have sound clips you can listen to that really let's you hear all the different types side by side...

Here's a LINK, just click on the pic of the muffler you want to hear, on the next page under the pic of the muffler is a sound clip link.

Duals out the corner, under the cladding piece that is kind of a cutout I guess... got the whole thing installed for $440 I think, that included muffler, pipes, tips, and everything custom bent, and welded.  Went with stainless tips because of the MI winters, and not the ones with the rolled ends due to price.  Wouldn't want anything else!  (Except for a CAI to make 'er grumble a little louder  :evil5: )

Yes, the 40 is definitely louder than the 50 SUV.  Lot's more "popping" when you rev & let off...and louder when you're just cruising.  Since I'm in the Av so much I didn't want all the noise - I would think that would get annoying after a while.   :dunno:

I can attest that Blue's 40 is loud. We were side by side after the last Bratfest and Trish nailed the throttle. He didn't have the supercharger on yet so I won the race!!!   His Trailblazer stall definitely helped at the dig.
