K&N 77 series should fit.

Everthing fits but the intake tube.  There's no way for it to go in with the fan shroud where it is.  And if the shroud was gone - it would hit the blades of the fan....

On Stylin' Trucks website, part # for 2004 is 773023KP - 2005 is 773050KP...guess I should have checked it a little closer before I started... banghead1

77series installation here---> http://www.midwestavalancheclub.com/index.php/topic,433.0/highlight,air+filter+installation.html

and stylintrucks.com has a .pdf file.  Click on it and it should show installation procedure also.

I admit that when i had the tube for my K&N FIPK installed,it rubbed on the fan blades at times.  It needs to be adjusted and tighten on the hose clamps very well.

Do you have a Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer  installed? Like this:

If so,the filter tube wont fit.

The one on stylin Trucks is more detailed than the one on the MAC post, but it's the same one I have with the kit.  Has great picture instructions for people like me  2funny

Yup I'm hosed!!  I just went out an put the stock intake back on, but left the filter set up the K&N.    That shouldn't hurt anything, should it?  Basically that just changes the filter, right?

If it fits, I'd appreciate the tube Blue - Hopefully we'll be having a GTG in early June that you and Trish can come to and I'll pick it up then...

Having the stock tube is fine.   Im still using my K&N filter on the Vortech tube.   Sure thing Mo,i'll bring it but please remind me before the gtg as i tend to forget things.

Also, bring the rest of the parts including the 77 tube.  We'll take a looksie :winkani:

I didn't even think it wouldn't fit. what year is your av? It doesn't matter that yours is a Z66 and mine is a Z71 should it? If you don't want it now that's fine. I can send the check back and you can send the K&N back. That's not a problem with me. Honest, it is the CAI I had on our Av.

Here is what it should look like instaled. Notice how the tube is position up a little bit? Also notice where the K&N decal is positioned. I didn't notice it hitting anything when I had it installed.

No worries Donnie - I'm keeping it.  It just doesn't have the fancy intake tube for now, but the rest is installed and I'm happy with it.  I never thought about it being different either - didn't think it made any difference until the body style change, but it sure did!  But it will work with the stock intake on it for now so I'll leave it alone.  Didn't get a chance to drive it tonight, but I  will tomorrow

My fan cowl goes back a lot further.  There is just no physical way of getting the tube past it - and if you did, it would be in the fan blades.  Who would have thought there would be such a difference between the 04 & 05?   Not me... :dunno:

But you know what?  I installed the thing on my own.  I'm kind of liking this doing your own work thing... :cheesy1:

Wasn't 05 the first year they went to factory e-fans? I think that's right and if so, that's why it won't fit on your truck. Now it just gives you an excuse for your next mod!               e-fans, anyone?

I bet I know why, I have the electric fans that are now stock on the 06. I don't think yours are electric are they?

You could spring for the electric fans and then you could use the cool looking chrome tube.

Is this the kind of thing you're talking about? Electric fan

What size would I need?  What is CFM?  This totally replaces the old fan?  Do I need a new shroud, or just remove the old one?   banghead1

And why are some fans (which appear to be for vehicles) run about $100 and others are up to $500?  Am I looking at the wrong things?

Dangit I can't open ebay here at work. But it probably is what I am talking about. alot of people have changed them out. By putting on electric fans, I believe it even helps out with increasing the power of the engine a little.

I've been doing some reading and it all sounds like a good thing to do, so I guess my next step is to go ahead and replace the existing fan.  Need to research now and find what size and how it's all done.  What do you think all - is this a do-able mod for me?  Or should I start talking to my mechanic?  I'm a whole lot more comfortable with mechanic work than electronic work...

Flex-A-Lite 282 fans are the easy way to go but they are also expensive. They are self-contained and include the temperature control unit. It took me about 3-1/2 hours (minus the compressor wire) to install my set. You remove the old shroud, remove the old fan, bolt the new fan in place, put the temperature control probe into the radiator fins, install & wire the fan controller and you're done. The worst part of the whole job is tapping into the compressor wire so that the fans come on when the a/c is running.

You can also buy some truck e-fans or LT-1 fans but then you have to purchase a controller or tap into the computer to enable activation of the fans through the computer. Then someone has to program the computer (like with HP Tuners) to enable that portion of the program.

A side benefit of the e-fans is that it frees up a lot of room in the front of the engine bay and makes some of the zerks that are difficult to get to pretty easy to get to.

I'm gonna jump in here and thread jack a question to MBT, My predator will program efans to turn on so do I need to spend the $$ on the flex-a-lite or can I go another cheaper route?

I can't answer that question for sure, OBB. You have to enable the pin in the computer that you tie into in order for it to work properly. I don't know if that's what the Predator does; I really doubt it. I suspect "enabling" the e-fans in the Predator is to enable changing the temperature set points for vehicles that already have e-fans. I know for certain that's what it was for on my Vette.
