Info for everyone
« on: April 11, 2008, 07:28:48 PM »
I used to own an automotive aftermarket company when I lived in Cincinnati (Class Act Autographics)
I still have some stock left over
Pinstriping, some graphics, gold leaf, roll vinyl, and a 24K gold plating machine.. I know there is someone just aching to get some gold work done! I have seen it, and I think it rocks on the right vehicle!  hit me up if you need something.. I know I have some 1/2 high bowties and ram heads (F(*&%^ DODGE)...

Gold leaf?  Really?  I hadn't heard of using that on vehicles.  Where would you use it?  Hmmmm...

gold leaf can be used anywhere you want. The gold leaf I have is 22K gold. The avalanche lettering in the cladding on 3 sides can be done, tedious work, but can be done. I bet the front bowtie would kickass if it was done in gold leaf.. I did mine in a dark grey and black marble look...  I probably wont keep it that way though.... I am in the market for the billet grill, and I am going to put red lights behind it, and hopefully I can find a billet bowtie, or maybe have mine painted black... Looks like I will be getting my airbrush kit back out...  LOL  I used to do vehicle graphics, and  some custom paintwork...

I'll bet that would be cool!  Gold lettering  :goodstuff:  When I first got my Av I originally wanted to do all gold accessories on it, then I found out there just isn't that many items in that finish.  Then I started looking at some that had been on other cars and it seemed like the finish didn't hold up.  So I went chrome.  If I ever get around to painting my power bar to match the truck, that gold bowtie would look pretty awsome.,..I don't have a garage so I'm waiting for the weather to warm up (and stay there) since I have to do any painting outside.

Great to know we have a professional on board who knows how to do this stuff!!  I'm sure I'll be talking to you again about this  :evil5: 2funny

New update, I spent the last 4 hours removing that damn gold leaf.. I always worked with that stuff, and have been fortunate to not have to pull it off.... until today. LOL I decided on black, I think it works with the exterior better, now I am off to do the rear emblem...

Dammit, if I only knew a couple of weeks ago.  I just buffed off the old gold leaf lettering on our reserve fire engine to replace with our department name.  I was looking for someone to do gold leaf lettering on the vinyl without getting hosed.  Oh well, I decided to go with the DOT reflective tape instead.

And as for removing it.  After 24 years of application it took the toughest cutting 3M compound and several hours to cut through the varnish, leaf and painted outline.  Then followed up by lighter cutting and final polishing.

Nope - these are actually pretty cheap.  Getting up the nerve to cut into my bumpers is what cost!! Whew - that was scary.  But it looks great when its done.  Cups are only a couple bucks each...I'll see if I can find a link for you.
