I thought it was just a screen or baffle of some type to prevent a hose from reaching down very far. I'm sure thieves have figured out a way to circumvent it. I've heard alot of gas stealing stories like a small pump hooked to cordless drill.

I knew a guy in the '70s that had a trap door, a pump and 5 gal cans in his van. He syphoned gas straight from the gas station underground tanks. They used to keep new tires chained up outside at gas stations too, the idiot had bolt cutters for those. No real way to stop determined thieves other than catching them.

Locking cap or door might slow them down or get them to pick an easier target.

Going to be selling the truck soon so I'm slowing getting rid of everything that won't be needed.
