Engine light....Kinda sorta....
« on: February 18, 2008, 07:23:37 AM »
As you all know by now, I'm NOT an electrical person.   Have nightmares about wiring!!  Soooo I found this light and thought it would be great for when I need to get under the hood, or at GTG's and such (If I ever get my painting done  ) It's battery operated, so NO wiring involved!   Very bright!!  Anyway - found it at Wally world in the camping dept.  It's actually to hang under a table umbrella, but I thought the hook would snap on the latch of the hood & light it up pretty well.  Here's what it looks like:

The hook slides out too, so you can use it anywhere....

To give you an idea of the size:

...and if yours is like mine, to operate it, you raise the hood and then reach up and beat on it to make it come on.  :tickedoff:
2011 Silverado, Ext Cab Z-71 5.3, 6L80, Airaid CAI, Magnaflow cat-back, and a little tuning by me and HPT.

You've got it!

My brother-in-law had a 1980's Chevy 1/2 ton that had the underhood light that had an on/off switch and a retractable cord. That was a useful feature as you just unclipped it, turned it on, reeled it out to where you needed it in the engine bay, and wound it back up when you were done.

I had a 90 Chevy c1500 with one of those.  It was a great feature.  I would trade the underhood light for one of those in a heartbeat.

I wonder if they still make them?  That would be pretty neat too...
