Rear Headrest Mod
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:42:50 PM »
Dont you get upset when you want to drop the rear seats and find out that you need to pull the front seats forward?
Well this mod puts an end to that. So easy a caveman can do it.

1- Insert a regular Panel Nail in pin hole and pull headrest out. (Don't use paper clip as they will bend).

2- This notch shown needs to be filed down on the flat side (left) in an angle.

3- Some folks use a Dremmel. I used my bench grinder as i dont have a Dremmel.

4-Grind headrest rod very smoothly to create a deep "V".

5- Perform grind work on all 4 rods.

6- Replace headrests back to their seats

7- Whenever you need to drop the rear seats, just pull headrests out and drop the seats without moving the front seats forward.

8- Whenever you need to bring the rear seats back up,simply reattach the headrests.

My burb had the holes in the back of the seat bottoms to store the headrest in while the seat is folded flat. Who's gonna do this mod first on the AVY ?

Don't need to do it . . .just put the headrest in the hole where it would go if it was attached to the seat and folder down . . that's what I do

Strobin, you can just fold your seats down without removing the headrest if I'm reading this correctly. Mine do that also as the seat bottom has the groove in it to accomodate the HR. I have to push up on the front seats just a little to get them to clear and settle in flat and my front seats are the whole way back.

I wish I would have seen this thread before Bratfest, your pics are alot clearer and I wouldn't have tried the paper clip before the drillbit.

It was a hit though. We used it after we picked the dogs up at Gina's moms. I had plenty of leg room.

THanks for doing this for me Donnie1 & Richie Rich - it sure helped on the drive home!!  I popped the headrests out, stood them in the hole where they would usually go, and finally had room to put the seat back where I want it!!  Makes it nice for when I run around with the back seats down.  The subs sound better without the seat up in front of them  :evil5:

And once you build that mid deck, Paul will have plenty room for more food and you won't have to stop as often.

I love this mod, and have done it on probably 8 or 10 Avs, although I need to start bringing a grinder to gtgs, I have done them all by hand with a file  banghead1

I ahd a Dremel as well but Richie stepped with the grinder before I even got done unwrapping the cord. That made things a lot easier. It alos worked great on the several tailgate torsion bars that were done.

Way to go Richie.  :clappinani: :goodstuff:  :yourock: :yourock:
