Needless to say, stealing cars is big business. If your vehicle becomes a target for thieves, there's a good chance it will be stripped of its parts and scrapped within days or even hours of being stolen. There are plenty of security options to locate your vehicle, but OnStar takes it one stop further by powering down the vehicle in a safe fashion. A simple call between you, the police, and OnStar can activate the vehicle slowdown system, which lets the driver continue to steer and brake as needed, but the engine decelerates until the vehicle stops safely.

The bloggers over at Kicking Tires took a Chevy Impala equipped with Stolen Vehicle Slowdown for a spin to see exactly how it works. Watch the video, and let us know if you think OnStar's system will deter thieves from stealing GM products.

This is a good feature to a point, But what if the thief knows how to diable the Onstar system? Will the vehicle still be operable? I'm still waiting for the day when the thief that knows how to disable Onstar will not even be able to move the vehicle after doing so.

I hate the idea of more tracking stuff, but if my Av got stolen, I'm pretty sure I'd be glad to have it...Danged old thieves 

Anybody hear if Dpreacher's av was ever recovered?
