Very cool tool to "hard wire" your radar decector to the rear view mirror.

Sounds like a good product, but I would think that installing a cord like that would almost force you to mount your Radar Detector up high on the windshield which is what you don't want to do.  It is best to mount your Radar Detector as low on the windshield as possible because when radar is shot at your vehicle they are most likely targeting your license plate grille area. 

It looks like this product would work however with my Passport 8500 X50!

Thats the thing....i want my radar out of my sight.   Right now it sits low on the windshield and i want it as close possible to the rear view mirror.

Looking deeper on this,is not available for Whistler units.    Hmmmm......i got the idea so im making my own.  Radio Shack here i come!

You  could probably run a power supply tap from the mirror and run it across/under the headliner, down/behind the A-Pillar molding, and then bring it back across/under the dash so you could still " hard wire" the radar detector and keep the unit low on the windshield.

Ah, the ole upper versus lower debate. Test have shown that the lower the mount the less range.(pulled back in '88 when whistler was selling a crap load of the remote detectors, I had one in my ranger)
With the broad beams emitted from the radar detector it will pick up a radar beam laying on the ground at the point of the detector beam clearing the front of your truck. Hence the lower the mount the farther out front of your vehicle that your detector will pick up a radar beam. About the same principle as shining a flashlight out of your windshield from the dash level and the mirror level. Where will the light hit the ground first?

Mine is up high just behind the mirror, low enough to just show the display at the bottom edge of the rear-view mirror
