AVALANCHE DYNO WARS

2008 Nationals GTG
(Banner coming soon)

So, you think you’ve got the most powerful Avalanche or maybe just more power then the one next to yours or just wondering how much power your AV makes? Well, its time to find out!!!

Tentative Date: All day on the 25th and 26th
Event Coordinator: Lord Aries
Event Judges/Officials: Livernois Motorsports

The Portable Dyno - Livernois Motorsports

I am working closely with my friends here on CAFCNA and at Livernois Motorsports to make this event a reality at the 2008 Nationals, in order for this to happen there are a few things that we need to cover.

1) Participants – we will need at least 20-25 trucks to compete
2) Cost – There will be a MAXIMUM $100.00 charge to compete
3) Attitude – This is meant to be fun so, lets keep it that way

The first 20-25 participants will have to be signed up and pre-paid by sometime in April-May to ensure that Livernois does not drag the Dyno to the event and then no one shows up to play leaving the event coordinators footing a massive bill.

The cost to make this happen is not at all cheap so, to offset some of that cost there will be a charge to compete in the event. Keep in mind that you WILL get a Dyno print out of your trucks performance! We are working with event sponsors to help cover the costs so, with any luck the event cost will be less then $100.00 but, for now just plan on that amount. FYI: $100.00 per hour is a fairly standard rate for most all shops for time on a Dyno.

Event Info

RULES - Based on experience at other similar events (subject to change)

Each competitor will get Two runs with a Ten minute break between the runs for a quick cool down. You will NOT be able to adjust your set up in anyway once on the Dyno, the best of two runs is your judged run to be compared to the other competitors in your class. Both Horse Power and Torque numbers are taken into consideration for the judged runs.

Your two runs will be scheduled to take place at a certain time of day to allow pursuit of other activities. If however you are not at the event at your scheduled time, you forfeit your runs unless the event coordinator can reschedule them later in the day.

Trucks will be set into a class when signing up but, Trucks will be inspected for class rating before being put on the Dyno at the event.

*1500 and 2500 AV’s will not be in the same class

I noticed that there is a "stock" class for those of us that haven't done any performance stuff yet.  What would the purpose/benefit be to have a dyno run on a stock engine??  I'm not sure what the purpose of the dyno is I guess... :dunno:

It tells ya what horse power you AV has.   We know stock is 295hp (i think)  If you added a CAI,maybe that will change to 296hp buck2

Ahhhh, I was wondering why you ask to0 be in "Big Dog" instead of Boost Crazy.

I hope he can keep the cost down enough that I can run in both classes.

Right on.

Of course remember this is rear wheel horse power.  Expect numbers in the 220-240 range from a stock AV.

Hey Blue, give me your opinion.  Aries is saying that if I put a set of stock tires on my AV, I'm a dyno queen.  What do you think, run it on the 33's and lose 30-40hp off the numbers or bolt on some stock tires and turn some big numbers?

Is that a trick question?

I bet you never tried running on stock wheels before anyways.  I'd say go for it but dont break the dyno cuz i want next :evil5:

I think you'd be in the same range as Flabouy. Thats if he runs 600hp+ as he claims.

OK, just to give all you horsepower junkies a laugh, I've signed up for this in the stock class.  I'm curious just what a stock AV has for horsepower and nobody else has signed up for the stock class.  I'd like to do the idea someone had on CAFCNA, with a before/after dyno on stock/custom tune.  Be interesting to see if it really makes enough of a difference to pay out the money for.  Hopefully I'll have a tuner by then and someone can help me figure it out..hint...hint...hint... :winkani:

I'll just ask the people running the dyno to hide my numbers-they will probably be embarrassing next to all of you guys!!  But I'd kind of like to see how it all works...

I think you'd be in the same range as Flabouy. Thats if he runs 600hp+ as he claims.

He has ported aftermarket heads and a slightly larger cam than me.  I think I can run with him on the spray (nitrous) but will be 60-70hp behind him on the motor.

Gone but not forgotten, 2002 Victory red. The quickest lifted 4x4 AV in the US in it's day.

I think that there will be a lot of stock AV's running since there there and it's there.  There aren't a lot of us that are true "gear heads" but I think a lot will sign up the day of the event.

wish we could make it but it's not looking good right now. I'd be able to get those #'s for you Mo as I've just got my tuner. One pass stock and the other one tuned.

Yep, back to straight-up, vice 6 degrees advanced.

Started running with my Gen II ram air box and brand new and larger K&N a couple of days ago.  It is still rough, and I'm still working on the interface with the hood to seal it, but today is my last day at work until after the gtg to get it and other things ready.  My recent Gtech runs were with the cam back with 0 advance, but with the Gen I box and filter.

I hope to use the Gtech to do some spark advance tweaking before hitting the dyno.  I do have to readjust my MAF calibration still with the new box.  Did my first scan last night.  LTFTs went from 0 - -4 to around +5 - +11.  No wonder I was hearing some knocking - I was getting more air into the cylinders than the computer thought, and hence it wasn't pulling enough advance out.

That's a good sign that it's doing what it was designed to do, make it easier to get fresh air.

That may be true, but I believe it is due to a slight difference in intake geometry affecting airflow through my (your) screenless MAF.
