wig wag drl's
« on: December 29, 2007, 09:24:39 PM »
Ok, I see MoAv and myself found a link  about doing wigwag drl's. I'd like to do this but the schematic isn't the clearest. Anyone here done it before?

Looks pretty cool, but I don't think it would be as impressive on a WBH than it is uncladded.

I have it, but get this... I didn't do it.  Hard to imagine I know.       Mine was done with a group of about 8 AV's at a modding GTG in Tennessee.

I've done stuff like this before (relays) about 20 years ago when I was into car stereos and alarms. I won't have much of a problem with it once i get the parts. If your modder is half decent with wiring he can do this in under 1 hr.

Thanks OBB - I read the update & found the links for the electrical thingys I need.  I'm electronically challenged - still can't find the dang fuse I blew trying to change a switch in my Av.  I'll definately have to have someone else do this or I'll probably find my Av turned into a pile of ashes.... 2funny

For anyone looking to do this, a quick recap. You will need a couple of relays and some wire. I just cut the drl wire and put the relay in that wire so when the turn signal flashes it cuts power to the drl's.

This is the parts I used and the way I wired it on my 04

Parts used
  Harness

   12V 5pin relay
Parts ran less than $20 shipped, One bosch relay at the parts store will cost you about $15 alone.

Power sources...

DRL Power...Blue Wire---------------------------You will need to cut this wire and put it "through" the relay
Left Turn Signal...Light Blue Wire
Right Turn Signal...Dark Blue Wire

Wire connetions to relay... 87 is the normally opened and is not used!
* Note that the drl wire must be cut.

87a is normally closed...This will be the wire going to the drl.
30...This is the other wire from the drl, the wire that comes from the fuse panel.
86...Ground to body.
85...Tap into Turn Signal power.

It would be wise to disconnect the battery before starting this as with any electric mod, just remember that your systems that have battery memory may need reset. I would suggest turning off all electronics (Climate Control, Stereo....) before disconnecting the battery.

I am ordering the parts now, should have them installed next week sometime. Also I just did the aoh, and fulltime drls. Do I need diodes to do this? Someone got a wiring diagram they can share?

nope, no diodes needed. Dang, we did 3 sets at Bratfest and didn't take any "how to" pix.  banghead1  If you ordered the supplies from MCM here in this thread there is the wiring code in that same post. White to ground, black to the turn signal +12v, red and blue gets extended down to wherever you cut the drl wire and spliced into those.

I was going to get it done there, but i had an issue with the wires going to the right drl. some cut somewhere.

So, I really want to do this Wig-Wag mod...I've already got the FTDRL with ambers, and all on high, but I really want to add the Wig-Wag to the DRL.

I see that you (oHIobellboy) have done it, does anyone have any clear instructions on doing this.  I read through the posts, and done some searching, but nothing laid out super clear with pictures.

I'm comfortable splicing wires, but I really have a hard time following the wiring schematics...pictures do 100% more for me.  Does anyone have any they can share?  Or a link to some?

Would be so appriciated.

I have to replace the videos. They were stored on Photobucket and they got rid of all video I think. At least the ones that were remixed. I will be doing a set this weekend at the WV GTG and do a full right up with pix and video.

With cladded trucks they look real cool with ambers flashing top then bottom. Rear wig wag looks good with bright LED sail panel lights, same top/bottom effect.
