The BumbleBee
« on: November 09, 2006, 08:35:28 PM »
Boy, is that sucker bright!” That’s basically the gist of the bright-yellow paintjob and eye-catching exterior mods: This Avalanche definitely attracts its fair share of attention. In fact, sometimes a little too much for our liking. We’ve had people leaning out of car windows, swerving precariously close, and generally endangering life and limb in order to get a better look at this big Chevy.

The vehicle was raised 6 inches by Trader’s, using a Fabtech lift kit. That 6-inch lift was the first of many modifications, and the project vehicle has come a long way in the last couple of months. Project Avalan-che is a joint project between Truckin’s SUV magazine and Chevrolet. The purpose of this project vehicle is to think outside the box and build upon, as well as improve, a vehicle’s stock abilities and design.

Without a doubt, the most noticed (and most discussed) change to the Avalanche is its bright-yellow paintjob, highlighted with Satin Black trim. The paint, a special House of Kolor blend, was expertly applied by Bernt Karlsson of Classics By Bernt in Anaheim, California. The Avalanche’s yellow and black scheme was both labor-intensive and creatively inspired, serving to set the tone for the rest of the project’s buildup. Prior to the painting process, the Avalanche paid a visit to Trader’s headquarters in Whittier, California, where it underwent a lifting courtesy of a Fabtech 6-inch lift kit. The bumblebee received a set of BFGoodrich’s new Mud-Terrain T/A tires. This polished wheel offered an aggressive look and stylish lines that perfectly complemented the Mud-Terrains.

The stock side steps have been removed, and in their place a set of Westin Automotive Platinum Series Step Bars was bolted on. Up front, Ron Weaver of R.W. Automotive, in Sylmar, Calif-ornia, custom-fabricated a front prerunner-style brushguard for the Avalanche. To give the Avalanche more seeing power on those dark off-road nights, mounted within the brushguard is a set of Pro XT Super Racing Halogen lights from PIAA.

I agree.  I love yellow on a AV but not on too many other vehicles.

2011 Silverado, Ext Cab Z-71 5.3, 6L80, Airaid CAI, Magnaflow cat-back, and a little tuning by me and HPT.

Gone but not forgotten, 2002 Victory red. The quickest lifted 4x4 AV in the US in it's day.

Where can I get the cladding pieces over my wheels like the ones on this truck?  This is only the second truck I've seen with cladding like that.

I believe those are custom made.

I believe those are custom made.

Those might have been custom made but others I have seen have just taped off the lines and had it painted to match the cladding.
