Topic: 22's & 20's possible?

Looked at the SSR and it has 22's in the rear and 20's in the front.

Can this be done and change tire/wheel size....say hptuners or diablo?

Will this throw off the speedometer? Will the drivetrain get confused?



I dont remember if i asked this before or not. Maybe i was yaking at someone about it.

Ive been thinking of replacing my rear wheels if this is possible. I currently have 20's.

With our four wheel drive you would have to make the outside diameter exactly the same to avoid drivetrain bind when the transfercase is locked.
I don't think I would do this with a four wheel drive truck, but I'm sure it could be done with some research to make things right.

I currently use 50 side walls.  ( 285/50/20)

If i can find 50 side wall for 22's ( i doubt it,i think the largest is 45) then i should be ok?  say......285/50/22

or.....maybe 45 compensates and keeps the same diameter as the 50/20's. I dont know.  Im hoping the 45/22 are the same diameter as 50/20.

i need to work on this.

here's the tire measurements.....285/50/20
285 is width
50 is sidewall percent of width-- or so i've been told
20 is the rim size.
hope that helps., I'm figureing about 14 millimeters sidewall difference between the 20 and the 22 with the 22 being about 1 1/2 in. taller overall., the 20 will have a taller sidewall by about 14mill. but the 22rim more than compensates for that.

As long as you keep the same overall diameter (since you have a Z71) on the tire/wheel combination you will be OK. I haven't tried to run any numbers on sizes but you might have trouble finding the same diameter.

I think this is going to be a pain in the ass.   If it comes to have 2 diff tire brands,so be it.

I want that hot-rod look so bad!
