Gatorback Aerosol!
« on: November 15, 2007, 08:03:28 PM »
NEW! GatorBack Coatings are now available in 11 ounce aerosol cans! This will provide for an alternative method of application. In addition to spraying traditional GatorBack with a spray gun or rolling it on discolored cladding, the new aerosol product may be sprayed on surfaces right out of the can. This product is also ideal for touch-ups to cladding that has been accidentally scraped or slightly damaged.

Here's some info from their web site on how much you'd need:

"For an Avalanche with upper cladding only: 4 cans
For a fully cladded Avalanche: 8 cans
For an Escalade EXT: 2 cans
For vehicles with limited cladding (bumpers and running boards): 1-2 cans"

$22.95 a can....

I'd really like to Darken the cladding on my 02 Av...  Do you guys think if I puchased the aersol cans meant for the 03 and above models it will restore as well as darken the cladding?

It will darken it but if you scratch it deep enough the lighter grey will show through.

I'm trying to decide whether to go with the spray application or the buckets of the stuff.

I bought a can of it for my "4-fenders" because they faded out to an ugly greenish-gray. The Gatorback spray cans are easy to use and it worked great. I removed the fender inserts, cleaned them real well, and sprayed the fenders. It's been on for about 2 years now with no noticeable fading and no chipping or peeling.

What I want to do is paint all of my cladding, use Krylon Fusion.  There are several topics on TOS that folks have painted the cladding, mine is also an 02 and it was Gatorbacked at one time but starting to look pretty crappy again.  I've read a few posts that folks have used 10 cans of the Krylon Fusion and they claim that's with 3 coats.

Good luck!!

I thought about painting it, and have decided that it really would'nt work for me.  I like the texture of the cladding and do not want to have to sand it or prime it for paint.

Plus... In Egypt it is very difficult to find the right paint shop as well as import the right paint and trust the guys painting know what they are doing...  I figured the job is managable if I take the gatorback route.

I like the fact that the gatorback coatings last so long and they keep the truck looking original yet sharp.

My only worry is if I choose the "Black option that the veichle will loose some of it's massive presence that it has with the cladding being gray.  With that, I feel my decision will ultimately be the darker grey 03 option...   Ill be sure to take pictures and post em up when I'm done.

Thanks everyone!

Hey MonstaX2,

I had my 02 done at the dealership a while back with the GatorBLACK.

I absolutly love the way it turned out.  Mine is definatly a parking lot princess so I have had few issues with chipping or scratches, but its simple
to repair when it does happen.

Mine was Gatorbacked at the dealer too.  Looks great! I also have 2 cans of spray for touchup.  Haven't had to use them yet.  Anybody know how well Gatorback stands up when used on a semiflexible plastic?  I'm thinking of using it on my Jeep's fender flares.
