2004 Faulty Speedometer letter from GM
« on: November 02, 2007, 05:45:59 PM »
Today i recieved a letter from GM stating a recall on 2004 faulty speedometers.   Well hell, mine works whenever it wants to.  The needle sticks at 80mph when im doing 60mph.

Sometime next week im taking it in for replacement.

I have to do this before 7 years of ownership or 70,000 miles. Whichever comes first.

....ps.  There goes my flamed gauges banghead1  Double-sided tape. I dont think it can be removed.

My question is...... i have a flamed overlay on the cluster.

This mod voided the recall?

For what is worth.....speed needle was broke before installing the overlay.

Hmm now I don't think it will void the recall but if you go in there and ask them if you can receive the replacement unit then take it home and do a transplant and keep your flame guages. Or just talk to the service manager and see if he can talk to one of the techs and maybe they can do it for you

I fixed it by replacing the faulty stepper motor. ;)

If you want to fix it yourself, here's a "How to" write up.
